Bottle: Poured a dark color porter with a small foamy dark head with average retention. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee is rally enjoyable and really easily detectable. Taste has got a really creamy texture with the mix of roasted malt and coffee being well balance. I really did dig this porter because even though it is not extreme in any way it is very well balance.

This 22 oz. bomber had a label that promised a singular experience. As I opened the cap and entered in the realm of this dense matter, I could see nothing except a two inch thick tan foam rising above the event horizon. As my face was pulled by the high gravity near the abyss, I could smell chocolate, coffee, and roast grain, but I am sure that was just some delusion caused by the forces pulling my body apart. As I went in deeper to avoid the intense pain, I tried to imagine drinking dark coffee sweetened with molasses. I tried to remember my old buddy Porter, and the many late nights we spent at the tavern. After an eternity of descent in the darkness, a one dimensional grainy and licorice like taste started tingling my throat, but it was still somehow pleasant. I was getting pulled down without any way of coming out, but I was not all that bitter. I suppose it is all relative…..

Pours with a one-finger brown head, fades quickly, leaves no lace. Black color. Light carbonation and heavy bodied. Nose is roasted coffee. Starts sweet with roasted coffee, finishes mellow, seems like a sweet stout to me. $5.40 for a 22oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.

Dark chestnut. Fine bubbled gray-tan foam settles to a compact ring. Lovely nose of nougat, baker’s chocolate, and woody roast. Hints of burnt toffee and smoke. Soft, dense carbonation. Slick body rolls off the tongue, but is immediately coarsened by a chalky stamp of roast. Suppressed fruitiness of dried plums and black cherries highlight the glimpse of nougat and bittersweet mocha, but the malts are suffused with a deep earthiness that doesn’t relent. Ample roasted malt dryness, coupled with the already-high degree of attenuation and spicy yeast, deter the richness from gaining foothold. Touch of char hints at espresso, before finishing brashly roasty and dryly grainy while the prominent earthiness remains. The aroma lacks depth and is overly yeasty, and the flavor needs something else (more sweetness/less dryness would be nice) to support the prevalent dryness and one-dimensional roastiness.

22 oz bottle-thanks to Hopdog for the bonus beer. pours 92% black with a fizzy beige head with good retention. Milk chocolate lactic note in the aroma with other notes of silver metal, and some light roast with a touch of smoke. There are some off-flavors here. Lots of metalic notes that become very detracting. Some cherry note that doesnt fit either-kinda acidic and offensive. Some mineral qualities also as the beer finishes. body verges on thin but does a decent job distributing what flavors are present. almost tastes bourbon barrel aged, but not in a good way. thanks for the try though Hopdog!

It’s the little things that make you happy. As you drink more and more beer, it’s fun to realize that even though there is no “style” listed on the bottle that you can tell what kind of beer you are drinking. 2004. Poured deep walnut brown. Minimal off white – brown head. Very dark but clear. Creamy-thick aroma with wood, licorice (or some other herbalish root) and burnt malt. The body was the first noticeable thing about this one. Creamy and light. Held in the body I detected flavors of toasted malt, sharp coffee, light toffeeish or caramel hints and even a bit of ash. A good easy drinking porter.

(bonus brew from jeffin7,thanks man)this porter was really dark in appearance.(and thats a good thing)it took a mag light to bring some dark ruby red out of the body.the aroma was a nice blend of molasses, coffee, chocolate, and snickers.the flavor contained all the same, along with a bit of sourness at the end.(that i really could have done without)overall this is really damn good and a fine example of the style.

Very dark brown body, close to black. Not much head. Reddish hue. Generic roasty dark malt / light coffee aroma. Much better flavor: big sweet (chocolate frosting) chocolate malt\, roasty black malt, and light juicy grass hops. Substantial mouthfeel, coffee finish.
