| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | May 25, 2005 Bottle. Deep brown in color with a soda-like tan head. The head fades out rather quickly and just leaves the barest ring around the edge. No lacing. Aroma is roasted and a touch sweetish, I want to say I can pick up some molasses but that may be a stretch. Body is light to a fault. Roasted grain flavor with a touch of sweetness. A bit of coffee, some chocolate. The palate is where this loses me, just far to light to make it top notch. OldGrowth (1434), North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 22, 2005 Bottle, from Julio’s. Good nose, malty. Smokey, licorice, chocolate, lite smoke, little egg. Nice dark brownish black color, no light getting through. Small to no head, what foan there was had a cocoa color. Bittersweet flavors, roasty. Molasses/coffee kinda thing, dried fruit, fig or date, find a little pine too. Medium body, lite oily creamy mouthfeel, bitterdry finish, good brew. dirtymike (2018), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

Aroma of sweet, malty, licorice, caramel and butterscotch. Flavor is roasty, with chocolate, and bitter black malts. Finshes too sweet for my taste, interesting beer overall. sloth (1684), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 21, 2005 Medium sized light brown head, good retention and surprisingly nice lace. Black but not quite black hole black, i guess as bits of ruby show aound the edges. Nose is fruity, hint of bananna, chocolate and light roast. Med/light body. lightly creamy. Light chocolate flavors backed by roast, dark fruit and maybe a touch of toffee. Medium dry finish. A fair porter. Probiere (992), Iowa, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | May 20, 2005 *sigh* Will I ever find a nice everyday porter? I doubt it; that’s why I’m brewing my own! But regardless, this has some cola/figgy/coffee/chocolate notes and a dark brown fizzy, diminishing head over a nearly black body. Palate was watery and slightly fizzy. Flavor slightly roasty, molasses sulphur tang apparent, finished nondescriptly with a mild aftertaste of Hershey’s syrup and graham crackers. No chocolate milk flavors and a too-thin palate. The quest continues. Volgon (2490), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | May 19, 2005 Bottle: Clear dark ruby with a small-bubbled medium tan head, rich malts with some chocolate, roasted ending. Panzuriel (995), Westerville, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | May 18, 2005 Liquid pours a very dark opaque brown with a nice tan head that reduces to a nice lingering lace. Nose is of a medium amount of roasted malt. Mildly mocha with hints of dark chocolate. Flavor is straight smoky roasted malt. Mouthfeel is full round and plush. Finish is soft and happy. Overall, a little disappointing, but still a solid beer.
