Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma is strong of chocolate, light coffee and roasted malts, molasses, and dark fruit. Very delicious aroma. Flavor starts off also strong of chocolate with coffee and roasted malts behind it. A slightly more bitter finish then I was expecting especially from a porter. I wouldn’t call this watery but it’s not as thick as I’m used to.

Bottled. Has a really nice coffee and chocolate malt aroma. Smoky and sweet, with notes of vanilla and oak. Molasses and a few raisins. Light fruity hops. Tootsie Rolls. Dark black-brown clear, with thin tan lacing head. Medium heavy body with medium carbonation. Mild alcohol warming. Starts with nice bitter-coffee maltiness, medium sweetness of Tootsie Rolls. Light carbonic acidity with mild bitter finish to it. The sweetness never really leaves, but is attenuated by the dryer hoppy finish. The after is pleasantly sweet and reminiscent of Tootsie Rolls. Nice porter.

Bottle. Pour is thick and almost black. A one finger high head forms quickly but laces a bit as it dies back. Aromas are of dark malt and some chocolatey tones. Flavor is thick and dark. Chocolate and some light coffee tones blend together and then change course to a nutty finish. All of this while mouthfeel is fairly creamy and smooth. I don’t know if you would guess the alcohol content... it’s obviously there, but doesn’t really provide any warmth or aroma. Even though it lacks this and the dark fruit undertones of some of the more complex porters I’ve sampled, it is really a solid drink and I’m a little surprised it isn’t rated higher.

Bottle. Huge dark chocolate nose with a touch of mocha and a whole lotta roast. Pour is essentially opaque pitch with a rocky, creamy bubbly tanned head. Big bitter taste, strong roast with light prickling hops, light mocha toward the back that really dries everything out. Body is surprisingly thin, not quite watery, though. Sucker is dry! Not so much to style – strange to say about this style – but it’s nice and dry without a lot of astringency.

From a 12oz Bottle. Pours an opaque, thick looking black color with a tall layer of dense tan meringue. Tons of creamy dark chocolate in the nose, along with a faint whiff of minty hops. Chocolate, molasses, even a hint of leathery pepper. Looks creamy, smells like juicy, chewy chocolate. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel with a milky texture. Toasted oats and dark chocolate cocoa powder flood the tongue, leaving a light layer of cappucino froth left resting on my upper lip. As the dry chocolates start to fade, some soft nutty coconut notes start to appear, accompanied by a hint of vanilla. Great texture and satisfyingly complex malt profile without getting excessively roasty. I’m not sure how old this bottle is, but its been in my cellar for a minimum of six months, if that means anything. No noticeable notes of oxidation; just a smooth, flavorful, creamy, all around impressive porter.

Draught @ Teller’s. Pours black with a small mostly lasting beige head. The aroma was chocolate, a hint of dark fruit, and some alcohol. The chocolate presented more bitter than in the aroma. Roasted malts were also present. The alcohol in the aroma was noticeably absent. Medium mouthfeel with a bitter finish. Some coffee appears mid glass.
