Slight aroma of toffee and blackstrap molassess. Folks, this is not a porter, it is a black ale, akin to Founders Black Rye. Light roast flavor mixes with toasted toffee, slight chocolate, molasses and definite hoppiness. Slightly watery. Some licorice on the finish. Not too bad. Thanks axl! | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 2, 2007 As far as porters go this is middle of the road. Aroma of coffee. Pour was an almost black with a half finger tan head that left quickly. Taste was a thin mix of coffee, roasted malt and bitterness in the aftertaste. Nice and dry with medium carbonation. Decent. Nice-tasting...Pours very very dark coffee brown, pretty close to black. Two fingers of tan head. Aroma is chocolate, caramel and coffee - yum. Mouthfeel fairly smooth, medium-full. Patchy, webby lacing. Flavor is coffee roast and semi-sweet dark chocolate accentuated by bitterness through finish and aftertaste. jmikolich (405), Athens, Ohio, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 12, 2007 22oz bottle, fair lacing with a good sized head, this was pretty carbonated and bubbled nicely, i thought the body was lighter than a porter should be and taste had a roasty smoky end to it, not bad, not great. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 8, 2007 Bottle. Poured a dark brown that was almost black in the glass with red highlights with an average to large sized tan head that lasted a while and left fair lacing. It looked great and tasted pretty good. It had a moderate chocolate and mild coffee aroma. The body was medium and dry with tingly carbonation. It had that certain Weyerbacher aroma about it. It was a little one sided in flavor but at least that one side is pretty good. The body could have been a little fuller. It was initially lightly bitter and moderately sweet, while it finished moderately sweet and bitter. I prefer malt to hops and this one delivers some hops but mostly malt. Light chocolate and coffee flavors. A nice beer that I think is underrated. I also find is surprising that I never hear anyone else talking about this beer. If you like dark beers its is a must but the only place I’ve ever seen it is at the brewery. Nice beer, but not the best porter. sheatripper (863), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 5, 2007 Bomber. Poured black as (I’ll spare everyone the poetic simile) with a frothy/creamy light brown head. A few floating particles noticed in the blackness. Dark roast coffee aroma with molasses, leather and some black licorice. Flavor of dark molasses and Italian roast coffee malt with a little lactic sourness. Charred wood/burnt leaf (tobacco?) finish. Full bodied, smooth, with some fine carbonation. Interesting label with the sci-fi graphics and Hawking reference. I’m not much of a sci-fi fan, however, and I just think this porter is fair to OK.
