I thought it would be a flavor that is dominated by bourbon, the bourbon is there for sure, especially after warming up, but its subdued enough for fruit, and wood to come through. very drinkable for the alc% a good bomber to share, which I did, very nice!

Bottle from Foodery II in Philly. Pours a translucent brown with a tan head, with nice lacing. This has a dominating aroma of bourbon, with some sweet malts and syrup in the background. Medium mouthfeel and fine carbonation. Initial flavor is that of a quad- dark fruits, yeast, and spice. This quickly transitions to a stong and sweetl bourbon midde. Finish is boozy and warming, with some yeastiness that lingers. Way too much bourbon characteristics for my tastes, making this somewhat one dimensional. If you like bourbon, by all means give this a shot.

Bottle to glass. Clear brown pour with yellowish head. Lots of aroma from the moment I opened it. Very transitional in taste and around different areas of the mouth and tongue. You can taste the oak it was aged in and really taste the bourbonesque nature of it. A little too oily on the palate for me, and the first swig i took almost put me on my ass as if I took a shot of Jack. Like no beer I’ve ever tried, however I was pleasantly surprised and look forward to trying another. Thanks Hammerstone.

Bottle. Clear nut brown pour with a foamy yellowish-white head. Lots of sweetness and wood in the aroma - full malt profile, underpinned by a strange artificial smell. Like sweet bourbon with none of the alcohol to balance. Flavor is really similar to the aroma, with more pronounced alcohol. It’s interesting, but the bourbon characteristics dominate the cohesion this beer may have - it’s all vanilla, smoke, and wood. Too oily on the palate for me. This beer is on the verge of being something good, but didn’t quite make it for me. I’m a big bourbon fan, and I was expecting something better.

Tasting Notes
Aroma: Sweet Belgian fruitiness with a hint of banana as well. Deep inhalation reveals the alcohol.
Appearance: Transparent copper/honey color. Large foamy beige head that leaves some lacing. Lasting crown.
Flavor: Belgian fruitiness and spice with some slight bubblegum. There is definitely some bourbon as well. In addition, subtle barrel flavors also can be found which adds to the overall complexity of this beer. The alcohol (11.8% ABV) is warming and causes a slight burning sensation through the nose. once this beer gets warmer, the bourbon and wood flavors become more forward rather than being discreet and more blended into the overall flavor and complexity. The bottom is very woody.
Palate: Medium+ body. Creamy and smooth.
Overall: Very good, but the bourbon seems to dominate at times. I love bourbon, but I would have liked to see more of the other qualities and flavors of the beer come through rather than straight bourbon...

Friday May 25th 2007 Weyerbacher Blasphemy Draft in a Challis from Max’s in Baltimore Copper color with slight haze, small to no head which can be expected from a beer over 11%. Actually looks like it has similar characteristics to the Barley wine style. Subtle notes of oak and maybe dates tingle the nose. The placement of Alcohol finds it way immediately to the palette but not so strong that it offends. Tends to leave you with a nice lingering aftertaste that blends well with spicy or barbeque flavors. Another fine oak series from those guys in Easton PA! Will be trying to go by season and style when possible, with special cellared ales on special occasions. Look for the next 359 beers and for the entire diary on my BeerMagnets website!

22oz from 4 seasons. The aroma is banana and molasses. It looks light for a quad, and it has an attractive amber color. The flavs are booze, fruit, smokiness, and molasses. The bourbon is there and very subtle. This is a very good american take on quadrupels and the light smokey bourbon flav is an excellent complimentary element.

22oz bottle: Pours a crystal clear medium to dark red color with smallish creamy light tan head. Aroma has notes of vanilla, burbon, oak, cherry, toasted caramel, mild belgain esters. Flavor is malty, loaded with caramel, notable hints of burbon and charred oak, bit of cherry and vanilla. Finish is mildly sweet, hint of alcohol.
