| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 9, 2009 Bottle. Poured a medium amber color with tiny off-white head. The aroma is strong of alcohol and dark fruits. The flavor is very smooth malty with hints of raisin and plum. Finish is dry and sticky with somewhat heavy alcohol. Excellent. heemer77 (4312), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 8, 2009 Deep bronze colored body with a light amber at the edges when held to light. The head is light khaki colored and relatively thin, but sticks around for a while. Sweet, warming caramel and peanuts are strong in the nose. There is also some pears and a light cinnamon. I get a very sweet taste from this brew. There is caramel and pear. Alcohol is apparent, but not dominant. It ends with a little bit of an alcohol burn. A little hot, but hey, it’s what I expected from Weyerbacher. Overall, an interesting brew that demands to be sipped. Parrothead (187), Ephrata, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 27, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a hazy burnt orange with an off-white head of small bubbles that sticks around for a while. Nose is sweet, Belgian-like. Very full palate, silky. Flavor of fruit, dates, honey, malt with the hops in back as well as a definate alcohol reminder, but no burn. I’m not real familiar with this style, but I do like this. Would be a great accompinament to a great steak. Syd (911), Waconia, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 21, 2009 Bottle pours a very hazed amber with a decent head that retains surprisingly well for the ABV. The aroma is solid plum wine, dark fruit, and fig. The flavor is solid sweet fruit with some solid malt. The palate is quite rich and almost sticky. A nice warmer. pauljackson1 (25), Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 16, 2009 Bottle. Very nice malt and grain flavor, as well as flavoring hops. Not over-carbonated, which is nice. Very mild for an 11.1% ABV beer. My only criticism is a slight (soapy?) off flavor in the aftertaste, but nothing offensive. riversideAK (2803), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 12, 2009 Bottle with the old silver cap, don’t know what year this is. Really nice aroma of aged malts, toffee, raisins, dark fruits. Really nice sweetness. Interesting colored brew too with a nice reddish/amber/brown haze with a thin head. A nice fruity malty brew. Toffee, caramel, brown sugar, raisins, chocolate with a hefty dose of yeast too. Usually I don’t like these kinds of one dimensional sweet malty barley wines, but this is working very nicely for me. mikalooch (172), , New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 3, 2009 Bottle. Pours deep copper with very little head with little or no retention. Aroma is fruit, prunes or raisins, with vanilla extract. Taste is potent, bourbon with prunes and malt. Very little carbonation, is almost the consistency of cognac. Packs a punch, although the alcohol is not that apparent. Worth a try. CheersMate1 (866), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 31, 2009 Not a bad looking beer. Nice head retention. Fairly decent look to it. Too transparent for me. Very fruity aroma i.e. dark fruits. Smells more like a belgian ale than a barley wine. I definitely smell the figs and dates that they are talking about. It is a pungent aroma, and decent to me. Decent mouthfeel. I could have sworn when I had it at the bar it was creamier. Not a horrible palate, but not a great one either. I definitely taste the figs. I don’t know what they are talking about as far as barley wine. This tastes just like a belgian strong ale, if you ask me. For what it is, it is decent. Just be prepared to be surprised as to how this "barley wine" tastes.
