Commercial Description:
At Weyerbacher, we prefer to brew things true to European style guidelines, so our barley wine is definitely on the malty side, without being overly sweet. Notes of date or perhaps fig on the palate follow a pleasurably malty aroma to your taste buds. The finish is warm and fruity, and begs for the next sip.

Bottle from Total Wine. Pours an orangish amber color with minimal tan head. The aroma emits odors of caramel and fruits. Flavors are highly boozy with notes of caramel, toast, and a fruity finish. Mouthfeel is reminiscent of a port wine. Medium/high carbonation and full body. A slightly unusual barleywine, but satisfactory.

12 ounce bottle with no date to be found. Hazy, orange-tinged beer. The aroma is really striking: fruity, in a candy-ish way, as though it had some Orange Flower Water in it. The taste is not quite that sweet, but it is sweet. Fruit, dates and figs. Some bitterness comes through at the end with rough, spicy hops. The alcohol really comes through.

picked up a couple of these while in NC visiting Illini08 in Sept. pours a medium amber with a short khaki head, fading to decent residual lace. aroma is sweet with grain, ripe dark fruit and some alcohol. flavor is very pleasant with some caramel, bready grain, plum/raisin notes and just a bit of alcohol burn. solid BW

Via trade. I forget from who, but will add that info. later. The pour was ruby and copper with almost no head. The aroma was lots of malt, unchecked alcohol, thin citrus and some pine. The flavor was malt, light citrus, cough syrup or alcohol with some vanilla. The mouthfeel was medium plus. The finish was tight. ABV was a bit extreme, leaving it a tad hot.

This barley wine poured a light copped colour with next to no head at all. Even after a vigorous pour. To the nose there are scents of paint, liquid paper, corn, sweet malt and cherries. First taste was very smooth with a thick mouthfeel. Taste of cherries, malt and sugar are most prodominant. Finish is sweet with malty cherry flavour lingering. Finish is syrupy but not that sweet. One of the better Barley wines I’ve ever had.

Pours dark ruby color with minimal off white head. Strong caramel and fruity aromas. Sweet malty, dark fruit flavors with some warmth from the alcohol. Medium/full body with mild carbonation and a syrupy mouthfeel. A good English style barley wine.

Bottle: Pour was dark ruby/brown with minimal head. Aroma of sweet malt and dark fruit. Flavor was very sweet and malty with more dark fruit, light vanilla, and a hint of cherries. Real good but could probably use some age. Would purchase again.
