Commercial Description:
At Weyerbacher, we prefer to brew things true to European style guidelines, so our barley wine is definitely on the malty side, without being overly sweet. Notes of date or perhaps fig on the palate follow a pleasurably malty aroma to your taste buds. The finish is warm and fruity, and begs for the next sip.

2002 bottle. Sweet malty aroma. Dark brown in appearence. Virtually no head. Very easy to drink, not alot of hoppiness to it at all. Could easily get messed up drinking this stuff. I like it.

Pours a hazy brownish color with an off white head. Aroma is of a lot of dark fruits, malts, and some alcohol. Flavor is very sweet but not overly done and is balanced by some hops.

On tap at Brother Tuckers. Nice amber/red color with a small beige head. Very sweet malt, dried friut and caramel on the nose. Great sweetness without being overdone. Very nice.

On tap @ redlight redlight. Pours a reddish amber with a light tan ring of head. Sweet malts, caramel, fruity, a little bit of hops on the nose. Boozy flavor, sweet caramel malts, bitter hops make a appearance at the finish. Med mouthfeel.

Clear amber color with a tanish head that settles down to small patches and a thin ring around the glass. Aroma is caramel, woody with some alcohol surfacing. Much of the same in the flavor with the addition of sweet malts, toffee and some spiciness. Some alcohol shows towards the finish, although not as alcoholic as I was expecting. A solid barleywine.

Bottle from Market Street Wine Shop Downtown Charlottesville. Hazy reddish amber with minimal head. Big malt aroma with notes of grain and toffee. Toffeeish taste with some hop bitterness.

Bottle: Sweet wine like aroma. pours amber with a slight reddish tinge almost no head. Very malty and fruityin flavor. A true, srong barley wine with a pretty smooth finish but not perfectly smooth finish. I’m liked it a lot. Wondering if a trip to the brewery is in order...

Bottle, 2005 vintage, thx to Maria for sharing. Pours with a lot of microfloaties and some chunky floaties in an else clear copper body with a minimal beige head. Malty nose with beef-stock, caramel, fruits, pine and resin. Quite sweet in the mouth, alcohol evident but not pushing, beefstock, raisins and a little oxidation. Quite bitter, especially towards the finish. Considering the beer style, the mouthfeel is rather thin, but it’s a nice beer. (080412)
