Commercial Description:
At Weyerbacher, we prefer to brew things true to European style guidelines, so our barley wine is definitely on the malty side, without being overly sweet. Notes of date or perhaps fig on the palate follow a pleasurably malty aroma to your taste buds. The finish is warm and fruity, and begs for the next sip.

Smells like sweet green apples. Somewhat cloudy amber with okay head. Taste is weak and very reminscent of rubbing alcohol. Somewhat disappointed here. Palate is a bit weak as well. When comparing it to other Barley Wines - not very good at all.

Pours a fully clouded brown that has orange/red hues. Nose is definitely fruit-like. Minor cherries mostly. Flavor is influenced by alcohol. I can tell that right off the bat, but it does stay mild enough so as to not ruin the whole thing. Mild fruity edge. Mild raisins on the end as it warms. Not a lot of complexity, but definitely full bodied. Feel is typical. This is very drinkable since it is so smooth. But like I said, not a whole lot of complexity at this point.

Bottle shared by MiguelMandingo on BA. Pours a light transluscent amber color with a moderatly lasting beige head. Smell is light, and fruity with notes of peaches, apricot and lemon. Taste is a tingly, prickly, sweet and mainly alcoholic flavor much like vodka. Light bodied for the style, I thought, and definitely a bit hotter and thinner flavored than I like my barley wines.

Bottle. Hot, hot, hot. Nose is almost pure grain alcohol with some light fruit notes. Flavor is also alcohol-heavy, with a bit more of a perceptible sweetness. Caramel, dark fruits, all engulfed in alcohol. NEEDS TIME.

Sample:Strong alcohol aroma, some light citrus and spice. Yellow with a smooth head. Flavor: Spiced pear and apricot too much alcohol to taste anything else. Rough biting palate. Not well balanced.

I was digging this. The more and more I have of these English style ales, the more they emerge as my favorites. Beer poured with a big ol’ head, nice lacing and crystal clear beautiful brown color. The head dissipated a little quickly or would have been a 10 appearance. The flavor was strong caramel, candied sugar and just a lovely leathery mouthfeel. Good stuff!

12oz bottle. Pours caramelly brown color with a thin offwhite head of very fine bubbles. Smells of caramel and sweet malt. Tastes pretty damn malty sweet with just a hint of hops and quite a bit of alcohol on the finish. Mouthfeel is thick and syrupy with subtle carbonation. Definitely a Euro take on a BW.

12oz. Pours hazy dark brown. Mine didn’t have any head to speak of even when pouring directly in the center of the glass. Aroma is like a sweet spice box and flavor follows along similar lines. Mouthfeel is fairly viscous. I enjoyed this one, but it just seemed to be missing the dimensionality some of the style have. Underhopped, alcohol really really comes through as it warms.
