Commercial Description:
At Weyerbacher, we prefer to brew things true to European style guidelines, so our barley wine is definitely on the malty side, without being overly sweet. Notes of date or perhaps fig on the palate follow a pleasurably malty aroma to your taste buds. The finish is warm and fruity, and begs for the next sip.

Big caramelly malt and fruit aroma, hints of pear and some tropical fruit, mists of alcohol pushing this heavy aroma up to your nose, taste is thickish caramel ,toffee ,and a creamy Werther’s candy, all with touches of the alcohol and a little hint of bitterness in the swallow. Very nice sipper to warm you on a cold night, as I sat outside with Kingpin ,who was dressed like an old bousha, handing out candy to trick-er-treaters

Snifter. Definitely a winter warmer! Deep clear copper color with very little head. Nose didn’t hit me like I expected but nice, nonetheless, with caramel, molasses and candied fruit components. (Maybe a little cherry??) Nose follows through in the mouth with a slight malt undertone. Velvety mouthfeel. With a WARM finish. Alcohol almost throws this one out of balance, but the pleasantly sweet finish saves it, I think.

Thanks to jasonmech77 for this bottle. Pours a garnet with orange highlights and a small off-white head. Rather medicinal aroma of Robatussin and alcohol (the cheap brandy I get for eggnog comes to mind). There’s some slight molasses and even slighter raisins to the aroma. No hop presence to speak of. I feel like the aroma is kinda empty overall. Sweet taste features more molasses and wood notes than the aroma, but it’s still most cough syrup and alcohol. I get more sweet malt taste as it warms, but it’s not enough to help. Finishes with a bit of toast and dates but it’s a mild flavor with much more alcohol burn than I’d prefer. Medium bodied and texturally devoid on the palate, though the carbonation is nice and mild. I felt the Quad was a pleasant introduction to this brewery for me, but where that beer was able to be sweet boozy and GOOD, this one just falls apart.

pours a ruby copper with a tan head. sweet aroma of grapes, dates, wood. taste has dark fruit, malt, caramel, molasses. alcohol is there, but covered up nicely. smooth body, a little sticky. gives a nice, but short BW finish. try this one a little colder than usual for this style, the extra chill makes it a nice refreshing taste on a warm fall evening.

Very drinkable. Aroma of sweet malt . Color of muddy water. Taste is sweet with a heavy malt finish. Alcohol provides a small finishing heat.

It has a delicious bready cherry aroma with a woody edge, rather like a cherry pie in a maple pie safe. The color is a muddy ochre. The taste is sweet, alternating between bubble gum, candy, and horehound, with a mossy undertone. The taste of moss fades to weak grass and prune. This beer has outstanding complexity, acceptable balance, and a chewy mouthfeel. The alcohol is hardly noticeable.

Aroma of alcohol and grape malts. Clear amber color with an off white head. Starts with sweet malts and smoother than I thought it would. Moderate alcohol burn develops in the finish. Mildly creamy palate.
