I’ve tried a number of different barley wines and I’m just not sure they are my kind of beer. At first I am reminded of a Australian Shiraz. Spicy and bold. This barley-wine punches my mouth with a powerful hello, how are you! As the clock clicks 6 I am still amused and fruit forward. The back of my throat is numbed by the smooth yet adventurous taste. Is it worth the 16 dollars per six pack that I was ripped off for? Not sure, this is what you get for drinking head beers at the Jersey Shore. The Corner Stone, in Lavallette, has a great selection, but they just don’t get the 3 case deals that we see up North. One last note, I ate two sandwiches before I had this Weyerbacher. The tuna was a happy moment for us all. I will buy this beer again one day, hoping for a little more head. Good bless and keep you always. JBertelli

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 16, 2007 12oz bottle. In honor of "thegreenrooster". Todays Daily Devotee. Cheers, Jason! As the bottle was popped, aromatic nuances of figs and prunes wafted. Decent amount of muckity-muck at the bottom of the bottle. Ruby brown hue with an odd dime sized ring in the middle of the glass. Its one of those Chimay glasses that’s supposed to bubble throughout the longevity of the brew, so I guess that is the reason for the odd formation. Sweet fruity malt aromas. Anywhere from apples to melons, prunes to figs. Brown sugar and cocoa aromas. Full bodied but smooth and easy. High gravity rears its maniacle head mid way through the palate. Similar fruity nuances supported by cocoa and toffee flavors. Warming and slightly (rightly) carbonated. Just enough to be apparent, but not overwhelming. Slight woodiness and burnt sugar touch. Solid yet not dominating bitterness in the finish. Mildly cloying, but it certainly does leave you begging for another sip! Full yet not overt. Sweet and malty yet not overly roasty. Good bitterness in the finish yet not too citrusy hopped. Good toffee/caramel. Good fruit. An I do prefer my Barleys malts driven. Warming sweet and sticky. By true definition, this was a night cap. An I could see how the ease of drinking could cause someone to turn into its namesake. Fun, big and smooth. Luckily, I still have a few stashed in the basement! Cheers! Glazed9884 (207), USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 16, 2007 A lot of bbbles, very minimal head, big bubbles though. Murky, cloudy opaque amber-brown color. Possibly apricot in the flavor? Good mouthfeel, slight alcohol afterburn. Alcohol is hidden quite well though for its content. Also a distinct malt-sweetness, fruity taste. Good brew but nothing to get all that excited about. nearbeer (1880), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 14, 2007 12 oz. Copper with a small, lasting head. Prunes and molasses on the nose, with some slight alcohol. Flavor is sweet dark fruit soaked in alcohol. Some grassy hop bitterness on the tongue at the end. Palate is heavy and smooth with a tingly finish. Quality brew, but there is some unidentified flavor in here that nearly gags me. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 5, 2007 Bottle. Cleaer reddish, amber colour with a weak head. Nice sweet, malty aroma with notes of dried fruit, caramel, and hints of toffee.
Flavur of sweet malt, caramel, and some alcoholic finish. Very classic American Barley Wine. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 1, 2007 Reddish brown pour, small white head. Aroma is dark fruits and honey. Flavor is lots of caramel malts, sugary, dark fruits which leads to light fruits like apples and pears and finishes with a cloying sugary sweetness. Alcohol is not bad at all and the flavor is not heavy just the right amount. Full mouthfeel and a syrupy lingering finish. A well made barley-wine that is easy to drink. porterhouse (1163), Alna, Maine, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 1, 2007 (Bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maine/boothbay/ target=blank>1828 Vintage House, perhaps an appropriately-named beer for the occasion - my "ascendancy" into <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Users/TopMasters.asp target=blank>Master-hood (just means I turned 50!)) Not the richest of barleywines but if it’s plenty of alcohol you’re looking for look no further...Pours darkish amber with one and a half fingers of soft, creamy off-white head. Aroma is loads of sweet candyish malt and hints of pine. Mouthfeel is soft, light yet full, very smooth, sticky. Light weepy rings of lacing. Flavor, in comparison to the aroma, presents very little malt - fairly sweet with light rock candy and perhaps toffee flavors. A little piney. Finishes with a medium bitter bite. Oh and almost forgot this is pretty damn hot - not a guzzler.
