This was also rewarding. Deep dark amber beneath a small beige head. Nice blend of caramel, dried fruit, cinnamon/clove, blackstrap rum. Full bodied and smooth. Nice flavor, blending all the aromatic elements into a sweet, spicy, warm drink. Delicious. beerbill (1977), Laurel, New York, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jul 30, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Pours an almost clear reddish brown with a thin, creamy, light tan head. Light but pleasant aroma of caramel, dates and figs. Flavor was initially again caramel, dates and figs, however, this was quickly run over by a strong alcohol flavor. The finish was bitter and virtually flavorless. Not a drain pour, although I admit I did not finish my glass. I enjoy barley wines very much and have enjoyed almost every beer from Weyerbacher, so this bottle was a real disppointment for me. dpmeersman (9), Rochdale, Massachusetts, USA does not count | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 29, 2007 Short lived head and little to no lacing are the only negatives that come to mind. For such a strong beer(barley wine) it went down quite smoothly and found myself more then willing to have a couple more. Nice nose and visuals. bikesandbeers (468), Los Angeles, California, USA

At this point in the night I was a blithering idiot, but what a rember was a deep redish, malty brew that wnet down super smooth, despite lots of alcohol content. The sloppy notes read: "fruity, alcoholic, smooth" RiverHorse (454), New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 28, 2007 Poured a deep, dark burgundy color into the snifter. There was almost not head, and a very thin lacing coating the glass. Smells of peppery spice, candy, malt and alcohol. Very warming and sweet on the finish. A very drinkable barley wine. psuCE03 (122), York, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 21, 2007 NIce fig aroma, good color and limited head, typical of bw. A sweeter taste than I am used to with other barley wines although you can tell the alcohol % is up there. Nice relaxing sipping beer. muddyfeet (72), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 16, 2007 Pours a murky and strained mud brown that has a slight clay red to it. Slight tinged head that dissolved to a rotating film. Not picking much out int he nose--just some candy aromas.
Flavor is a plethora of conglomerations for an English barleywines. Molasses and syrup. malt sweetness. Wheat even. Even some odd candied sugars. Interesting flavors for the style. Also picking out some fresh sprigs of spruce for hops. Full mouthfeel that is very oily and cloying. Very easy to drink but the alcohol sure sneaks up on you. Fairly well concealed--I was surpised that it is above 10%--but it hit m awfully quick. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 16, 2007 Poured a dark amber color than initially looked muddy, but after sitting a few minutes it clears up to a nicer clear amber. Thin white head. Slightly alcoholic fruity aroma with some pepper and spice. Thick palate. Heat is up front, and a spicy malt middle leads to a quite sour turn at the finish. The finish really is off-putting. I don’t really like English-style barleywines I’m quickly finding out.
