Taste was big and sweet, but overall I had some problems with it. Raisins, dark fruits, candi sugar. Just didn’t come together very well. Close but not quite. gotohelunc (476), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 13, 2007 Bottle. Looks perfect poured in the glass...thick white head that sticks around. Such a dark tone it’s almost maroon. The aroma was very lacking, just a bit of sweetness hidden beneath booze, but pretty thin on aroma overall. Quite smooth for the high booze content, and it tastes less alcoholic than the aroma would indicate. Still, the flavor could use more personality as it’s a bit bland. Spicy and sweet, quite pleasant, just not anything stand-out-special and the hops are very muted. I’d drink it again without hesitation, but it’s not on the top of my list of favorite barleywines. phiconners (124), Massachusetts, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 13, 2007 Amber color, small head. Aroma is strong, fruity. Strong flavor, I felt the alcohol up front. Sweetness comes through in the aftertaste. Decent, but I just wasn’t crazy about the actual flavor. elmatador00 (518), j-action-ville, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 9, 2007 Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Has strong hints of dark fruits, caramel, malts, and candied sugar. Finishes with a sticky sweet feeling on the tongue. KidA (19), Morristown, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 5, 2007 Whiskey brown with a reddish hue and a frothy, light tan head. Dark fruit wafts out from the opening of my glass. Tastes like dark fruit(plum or maybe figs) and fine candy(licorice and butterscotch) with a burst of fresh hops. Sweet, salty, and bitter this barley wine is well balanced with the slow burn of dark liquor in the finish. after4ever (2806), Brier, Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Jul 5, 2007 12-oz. Thnaks, Luiss! Pretty sure that’s who sent me this. Pours deep murky caramelly brown. Thin off-white head of film; starts out kinda moussy and bold-looking. Thickish head that leaves strings of attractive lace as it moves down the line. Huge sweet nose. This is caramelly, raisiny, toffeeish, and molassesy the way Tina Turner is hot and funky. Sorry, just watched Gimme Shelter again. Anyway, This is a big, thick, sweet, syrupy goo of a beer, hitting you right off the top with huge sugary goodness and then plundering your face with heavy velvety adhesive. Bold, oily attack. Acres of flavor. All those medium-colored sugars report for duty again on the mid-palate. Long clingy sticky mapley finish. This is just a big fat beast of a beer to reckon with at every stage without a doubt. Braincage1 (140), Cary, North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jul 2, 2007 Bottle. Looks good with a slightly cloudy red amber color and a thin thin offwhite head. Aroma is a bit weak but it is almost exclusively a toffee aroma ( which isnt bad) with oranges and cherries mixed in. Alcohol smell was still noticeable. Flavor is powerful - Lots of hops and malt thrown in with the same fruit combination of cherries, and oranges. Caramel on the back of the tongue is nice but that alcohol taste is still there as well as an acid taste - Too bad - it had the right flavor combo otherwise. rick10485 (53), oneonta, New York, USA
