Commercial Description:
At Weyerbacher, we prefer to brew things true to European style guidelines, so our barley wine is definitely on the malty side, without being overly sweet. Notes of date or perhaps fig on the palate follow a pleasurably malty aroma to your taste buds. The finish is warm and fruity, and begs for the next sip.

This one really shines as it warms up to cellar temp. Aroma is alcohol, and raisiny at first then dates, black cherries, caramel malt, more alcohol and just a hint of floraly hops. Aroma is my favorite part of this Barley Wine. Pours a clear plumb with a thin tan head. Taste is smooth, sweet and a little bit sticky at the end with a tiny bit of bitterness that I get with every other sip or so. Average carbonation. While the alcohol is pretty well hidden in the taste, this beer will definately warm you up. Not overly sweet like some of the DFH big beers. Very nice.

12 oz. bottle pours a clear copper that releases a creamy light tan medium head leaving little lace. Brown sugar aroma with noticeable alcohol and some notes of dark fruit. Rich mouthfeel with a nice smoothness and very light carbonation, but there is also a hint of stickiness. Very malty with a lot of caramel sweetness that continues through the finish, although some bitterness makes a late appearance to take some of the edge off. Rings pretty true to the commercial description in being close to the European style of barley wine, but it’s just too sweet for may tastes.

Bottle pours a rich cloudy amber color, with a small head that quickly dissapears. strong sweeet and malty aroma. The flavor is rich and complex, medium sweetness, fruit notes and rich malt flavor. The strong alcohol content is not present in the taste. Good barley wine!

Way too sweet for me. It was difficult to drink more than a few small sips. Very winelike taste, mainly of grapes. Complex and full bodied, but not especially enjoyable.

Bottle - aroma is still a bit hot, but with plenty malt and dark fruits. Deep amber to brown body with TONS of floaties. Nearly looks like a Belgian quad. Smallish ring of beige foam around the rim of the glass. Flavor contains much more of the dark fruits. Alcohol is pretty well hidden. A good barleywine, but no one of my favorites.

A deep russet color with minimal head, this barleywine needs to be aged even longer than the year I’ve had this one down. While I enjoy the oaked version of this brew, the multiple flavors - raisins, dried cherries, perhaps dates - seem a bit cloying and the alcohol is super hot. Not bad, but certainly not among the top American barleywines right now.

I really don’t care for barley wine style brews. On the sweeter side which hides the 11% alcohol. Decent.

draft. bold amber color leaning more towards a garnett . small head with some oily lacing. aroma is filled with spicy fruit. medium mouthfeel. balanced very well with considering the alcohol content. wonderful flavors of cloves, orange, cherries. nice sipper that holds its own throughout.
