Aroma is lightly toasted malts, caramel, and hazelnuts. Flavor is nuty sweet and significant ABV. They seem to blend well and it goes down smooth. Not so much hop bitterness, but balanced all the way. Nice smooth rich feel and a late ABV bun at the end. Very nice BW. Thanks Jake65 via DocLock for this great BW. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 17, 2007 Bottle: Clear copper color with a large beige head. Nice lacing. Sweet aroma of fruits, citrus, caramel, malt, and light alcohol. Sugary sweet comes to mind. Taste is more subtle fruitiness, citrus, banana, caramel, and warming alcohol trailer. Some maltiness as well. Thanks DocLock for this one. markgugs (86), Wood Ridge, New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 15, 2007 poured from a 12oz. bottle into an oversized wine glass
A: Pours a murky golden apricot, like overripened amber-hued fruit. Very little head that disappears almost instantly and leaves no lacing to speak of.
S: Strong ripened fruit aromas, I detect hints of banana, raisins, a very bready overall scent. Smells delicious!
T: Initially, this leaves no doubt of the present alcohol, intermingled with some roasty, malted caramel flavoring. As the beer warms, more & more fruity flavors emerge, beginning with some subtle pear and peach, and then developing spiciness is added to the mix. Even a dash of warmed brown sugar bursts forth. Certainly not one-dimensional, that’s for sure. Tasty!
M: Very nice, a distinct crisp carbonation underlies the entire mouthfeel, but blends well with an overall full-bodied creaminess.
D: Pretty much an ass-kicker, not for the faint of heart. Drink more than is reasonable, and well, it ain’t called Blithering Idiot for nuttin’!
A very nice barley wine style from a vastly underrated brewery. Bockyhorsey (2543), Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 14, 2007 Extra from trade with zathrus13. Aroma most noticable was grapes. Darker orange body with decent head. Friuty flavor with a good malt and light sugar mix tried to hold back the alcohol. High octane alcohol barley whine but far less harsh on the palate than others I’ve had. Thanks Jeff. MIBRomeo (1965), Wisconsin, USA

Aroma of thick dark fruits mostly plums and hints of fig a bit of dark sugars and some great carmels, quite malty with some hints of jamaican rum. Palate is full and well coated. Flavor is qutie sweet tons of dark fruits lots of fig and plum and lots of carmels nicely fruity w/ a warm swallow. Good stuff. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 11, 2007 Pours a nice brown color, quite hazy, with a thick head of tan foam initially. After a bit, however, it was gone. Where did it go? I didn’t drink it. Nope, no lacing. Nice but mild aroma of vaporous dark fruit - like date and plum and fig.
Malty and full of flavor, lots of brown sugar, a little fruit, a little chocolate, a little rum, and a little more rum. A little bit of grain in the finish. The hops give a good balance, but don’t really lend a flavor of their own. That’s okay - this is a nice malty brew.
Very smooth body and mouthfeel, the carbonation is moderate, and the alcohol presence (apart from rum in the flavor) is not apparent. Deceptive - this one would smack you a lot if you hade more than two. KiDAcE (35), Canton, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 9, 2007 I am really stuck here for multiple reasons but here’s an accurate description since I am trying some now. First off the aroma: A medium-powerfull but still not overwhelming aroma with a touch of fruit and sourness. It pours a thick medium to bright orange and thick meaning cloudy; you can’t see through this one but it does glow a nice color with light behind + a slight head. The taste for the ABV% is; if I may make a comparison a far cry better than "Camo Black Ice" a FAR cry better. The alcohol is well hidden but by a bitter-sweet and back to bitter but not bitter meaning nasty flavor and is complex. In mouth it’s thick but not overly thick and a little syrupy but still not overdone. They seem to have taken their time developing this recipe in which I say thanks for showing that not all 10%ABV and above tastes not very good but it’s still not the best flavor wise...it is however my first Barley Wine and this may have something to do with it as I’m usually an Ale fan weather it’s an IPA or not (which is why I picked up this Barley Wine ’Ale Style’), a lager, and porter fan. For experimenting ’out of the box’ so to speak it’s not bad into itself but against others is where you get my rating. The finish is very smooth almost a 10 second linger then absolutely nothing, and no I can’t place what is in here at all; it’s pretty complex and possibly not meant to be totally de-ciphered. This is a very crafty brew. This is a first impression rating. To those of you at Weyerbacher you are now my benchmark for Barley Wines....can anyone top you? We’ll find out but I also am not bias; never have been never will be...must keep an open mind and palate. Cheers to getting more both when I can and want it to effect me in a hurry! Hmmm the tip of my tongue feels funny...oh wait I’m just a blithering idiot...don’t listen to me.
