Warm and peppery on the tongue. The flavor is carmel with dates, alcohol and a mild hop bitterness. It finishes on a peppery, warm alcohol note. Nice.

Nice spicey dried fruit aroma. Not much of a head. I can think of a few great cheeses and make this a dessert beer. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 10, 2007 This is a good barley wine. One too many of these babies and you will be wearing a jesteroutfit and doing a mannequin pose like our friend on the label. This beer poured dark red/brown with no head. The aroma was a sweet mix of fruitiness and malt. The taste was all malt and alcohol with little to no hop intrusion. I love hops, but this is like the ghetto. Hops don’t belong here...so they don’t come here. Nephilium (557), Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 4, 2007 Updated: Feb 20, 2008This beer starts off with a medium red color, very thin, quickly diminishing head, and a sweet smell with the hint of apples. It has a clean flavor, slightly sweet and fruity, crisp palate, and very short finish. I do enjoy this beer, even though barleywines are not my first choice. This is one that I prefer aged into its Insanity variant, and have cellered a couple of bottles to see if it ages as well outside of a bourbon cask as within. (Cellared one year) - This pours a near opaque reddish amber, with a thin tan head. The aroma has shifted more to a caramel aroma, with a little sweetness in it. The sweetness has fallen out, leaving some nice caramel flavors. Alcohol is a bit more noticeable, and seems to have filled out the mouthfeel a bit more. From my memory, this gets much better after the year on it.
