| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 5, 2006 Pours a dark amber/copper color with very small off-white head. Aroma is of molasses and raisins. Taste is mainly malty, sweet molasses... there may be some raisins, figs and hops in there somewhere but they get drowned out by the burning alcohol finish. Definitely needs some time to mellow out... far too intense. It’s insanity that this is almost rated as high as Insanity. UNCCTF (465), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 2, 2006 Very hoppy from the second I opened the bottle. Medium size head over a golden beer. Very full flavor with the warm alcoholic flavor that I love barleywines for. Engelsmann (653), Copenhagen, Denmark

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 21, 2006 Initial crack of the bottle gives way to a nice, mellow hop aroma. Super dark amber color. Hoppy, syrupy, super sweet, tons of burning alcohol flavors going down. This is the kind of beer that SCREAMS hangover. Somewhat dissapointing. Decent, but definitely not an elite barleywine. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 17, 2006 Thanks to moejuck, yet again! It’s been awhile since I’ve imbibed with a barleywine, as my palate seems to steer itself to summer style beers during, well...the summer months. So while camping with my family and my brothers family I brought this one along. I have to say that crisp air, fresh trees, clear water and a great barleywine seem to be a perfect combo. The aroma was an incredible balance between hops and malts. Appearance was burnt orange in color, incredibly clear with superb head. Mouthfeel was perhaps it’s one weakness, but even to say that is pretty nitpicky as I found it on the thin side but still very, very acceptable. The taste of the beer was simply outstanding with sweet malts being the most prominent feature but the hops are also making themselves known and it’s all really, really tasty. Drinking this reminds me of why I love the winter months and the new releases of all the barleywines. bubbleflubber (898), Collinsville, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 12, 2006 Pours hazy rich amber into the glass, with an initial deep creamy off-white head that keeps 1-8th inch retention down the glass. The nose is of malt and banana, with a hint of candied cherries. Very comforting caramel and banana malt flavors on the tongue. Lots of natural elements as well, like dates, figs and pitted fruits. The finish contains a touch of alcohol, but overall is well-integrated for such a high ABV. A few sours noted on the back palate, which can be quite tantalizing to the mouth after the pull. Feels syrupy and sticky. Very good brew here! Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 10, 2006 Pours a pretty rusty red color with a tiny white head. Strong hints of figs in the aroma with maybe a hint of cherry. Extremely malty stuff in the vein of the JW Lees Harvest beers. Lots of alcohol in the finish and a bit metallic at the end there. Solid.
