| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Aug 8, 2006 Semi-hazed and ruby-amber-mahogany in color with skittish doily lace to the color tan. Sulfurous bing cherries distract the nose and offshoot haphazardly, like cherry Tylanol spilling on rubbing alcohol swabs. Moldy and frozen ruby red grapefruit with a pomegranate spaded into a brandy Manhattan brings up the discouragingly scented rear. Flavor gains some ground, though still failing to impress. Mineral-esque well water rings like licked laundry sink basins. Over carbonated, with puce cherry skin stripped with nail polish remover. Fuller-bodied with ill-advised bittering hops and no flavor hops to speak of. Waxy cherry cordials splashed with sparkling mineral water bleed flavor into mouth feel. A glimpse of oily, liquor-laden amaretto caramel chews give a touch of finishing flare. Lick a tin of holy water and save yourself the time. 00cobraR (1098), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 4, 2006 This brew reminds me alot of Old Foghorn. Pours a deep amber color with a small beige head. Aroma is sweet and malty.Flavor is also sweet and malty with a nice warming finish due to the large amount of alcohol. The alcohol is very well hidden inthe flavor. Overall a super great brew. A nice change of pace from all of the terrilby bitter barley wines. Ty5592 (1015), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 3, 2006 Very good barleywine. Dark hazy amber/brown color. Complex dried fruit raisin flavors. Sweet with smooth alcohol bite. mike mcneil (660), St Augustine, Florida, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 2, 2006 Pours a viscous amber-brown with a tight, but thin off-white head. Rich, complex aromas of dark, dried fruits, raisin bread, molasses, caramel and toasted malts along with a definitve red wine character. Mouthfeel is pleasingly full, round, smooth and chewy. An explosion of complex flavors greet the tongue; figs, raisin, dark rum, brown sugar, dark caramel and malt. The alcohol nicely accentuates the array of flavors and the BW’s complexity. Finishes long and sweet with just a touch of hoppy bitterness at the very end. A big brew made to sip and enjoy slowly. Phatz (225), Paradise, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 2, 2006 This beer pours out dark and syrupy like King’s Syrup (for you PA Dutch) for the rest of you it is almost exactly the color of 100% pure Maple Syrup. The smell has strong suggestions of dark fruit like dates mixed into a sweet brown sugar base. It is FULL of flavors!! … "You know what really Grinds My Gears" is boring ass beers! This beer is NOT boring. It has tons of taste bud stimulation. I love that. It does a magnificent dance on tongue; slides down the throat very easily, and leaves behind a GREAT after taste similar to a dark cider. This was great with Shoe-Fly-Pie (for my PA Dutch comrades). I tried it with cheddar cheese, which really cuts out the bite of the beer, IF OF COURSE you don’t like the bite that will make it perfect. I however like the bite ( as a whiskey fan); so I decided to skip the cheese. I then tried it with (homemade) pumpkin pie. WOW!! That was amazing! The flavors work together to multiply the experience into sheer bliss! I highly recommend.
Mouth Feel: This beer feels think and heavy in the mouth. I almost wanted to start chewing it. You really know its a good beer you have in your mouth, not like that watery crap with no substance to it.
Drinkability: It is VERY sweet so you will probably not pound them down one after another in your college Frat Party style. But to sip on after you’ve undone that button to relax after Thanksgiving dinner, this is perfect! I also suggest not drinking this on an empty stomach or it’ll sit quite heavy, (and that 11% alcohol will sneak up on you) but it is fantastic with desert! Enjoy!
Hope this is helpful.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 30, 2006 Nice dark oak colored body with a tan head that diminishes quickly. Very good aroma, sweet raisin, banana, caramel and some residual malts. Excellent body and taste, smooth on the palate with a dark fruit flavoring, cherry, fig, maybe some apple. Sweet ending, highly enjoyable. tronraner (1934), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 30, 2006 Bottle. Pours cloudy red-copper with a cream-color head. The aroma is that of raisin bread, grain, dates, and hints of caramel and zest. The flavor has a decent amount of citrus, with raw grain, raisins, and some caramel, blended in such a way that it reminds me of a granola bar. The finish is more caramel, and the alcohol shows up in the aftertaste. Pretty good. BeerHeadBobby (142), In Hiding.., Florida, USA
