Over the top alcohol all the way through even after it warmed considerably. I had to dump this. no balance and very unpleasant. nolankowal (855), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 24, 2006 Many thanks to JHop for this one. Pours an opaque burnt orange/brown color with a yellowish-light tan head that rapidly turns to a super fine film over the top. Super sweet caramel malt fills the aroma along with some rasin and perhaps some tabacco. Getting tons of caramel malt in the flavor too along with dark fruits, alcohol, and maybe some honey with a touch of lemon zest. Big and malty over the tounge...sweet for the most part with a dry sourness creeping up into and through the finish. Full bodied and pretty nice barley wine though it could use a bit more balance in the flavor department...the alcohol seems to come out a bit too much and muddles the finsih. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 19, 2006 12 oz bottle. Hazy reddish-orange color with bubbly off white head. Smells of grape soda and molasses. Strong malty molasses flavor with plenty of sweetness and alcohol. Sticky and full bodied. Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 18, 2006 What a huge let down. Weyerbacher’s done nothing but disappoint. This is one of the those super british-style barley wines with no hops and lots of alcohol taste. Bigsilky (322), Charleston, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 12, 2006 Nice rich crimson, amber color. Tight white head that quickly subsides. Huge green hoppy nose, spicy candied malt fruit. On the palate the beer starts malty sweet with a sharp hop bitterness that seems to fade back to malt fruit (white raisons and fig) and pick back up in a big way on the finish. The overall impression about the beer is huge, if not simply expressed barley wine malt, with a big green hop to balance. This beer certainly seems to have a similar hop profile to the IPA of the same brewery. The beer is heavily warmed on the end by the high abv. I would say I’m drinking this too young. Hopefully with some cellar age the hop will grow up and the alcohol will quiet down a little bit. And I give points for that assumption.
Very well priced for a barley wine. MrWalker (927), Stockholm, Sweden

Redish brown with a big head that quickly settles to a fine lace. Aroma of toasted sugar/caramel, figs and some vineous alcohol notes. Body is full and palate quite sweet and thick. Caramel again together with a bit of fruity bitterness. Quite warming and the alcohol content is obvious. Sweet and sticky aftertaste. GonZoBeeR (2163), ste-Eulalie, Quebec, Canada

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 8, 2006 Pours medium brown with red tints. No real head to speak of. Roasted caramel aroma. Caramel taste with a hint of dates or figs. Taste fades fast to alcohol with a big warming effect. Flavor was lacking for a barley wine and a little to much alcohol in the finish.
