Commercial Description:
At Weyerbacher, we prefer to brew things true to European style guidelines, so our barley wine is definitely on the malty side, without being overly sweet. Notes of date or perhaps fig on the palate follow a pleasurably malty aroma to your taste buds. The finish is warm and fruity, and begs for the next sip.

The aroma is sweet spicy with notes of cloves, prunes, and raisins. The color is dark amber and it has a small orange head. The flavor is very sweet and very warm with notes of malt, caramel, raisins, and plums. A wonderful beer.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Dark, clear, amber colour with a small, beige head. Spicy, caramelish, alcoholic nose. Very delicately malty with loads of caramel and pronounced notes of dried fruit. Sweetish and soft, and not excessively bitter. Nice Barley Wine. 240705

Bright golden-amber with thin head. The aroma is sugary with a deep fruitiness (date, raisin, dark cherry) and all kinds of chewy malts. Sweet palate and full body. A little bit sticky. Lots of sugars, but they are soft, not cloying. The fruitiness is still present, but less prevalent. There is some light caramel and toffee, along with apple and light raspberry notes. Sweet, long barley wine. Finish is sticky, with a blast of alcoholic dryness.

Hazy red-amber color, hazy; creamy head. Caramel aroma, with a plum side, and some alcohol. Reasonable body stength, mature caramel flavor, medium sweetness, plum touch and raisins; correct bitterness, but the final is not sweet as it should be. So aged, it reminds me more an American version of Belgian Strong Ale than a Barley Wine.

2007-04-25, bottle, 8-4-8-4-17=41
Beautiful amber color; thin persistent head. Malty aroma, spicy, perfumy; interesting. Malty flavor, not too sticky, spicy, peppery; sweetness and balanced bitterness; the alcohol burns a bit. A very good strong ale, powerful; too much yeast in the bottle. More Belgian style (the yeast?) than English.
