Poured orange color with 0 head and no lacing. Aroma was of spices of some kind. Flavor was cinnamon which got worse as it warmed. Mouthfeel was way to thick. Didn’t like this one at all. So over the top sweet with honey and alcohol (No thanks for leaving the ABV off the bottle) that I couldn’t even finish it. Good beer, but not for me, I certainly wasn’t expecting something like this when I picked it out of the cooler. As mentioned, it’s a sip and savor beer - not something I should’ve been drinking at a bar while watching basketball. TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Jan 28, 2006 Marked in a 22 oz bomber bottles retailing for $7-$8 a bottle, Decadence is a rich, delicious, amber ale, brewed with honey and spiced with cardamom, and gentian. At 13% abv, this beer is just jam packed with aromas, flavors, and alcohol, and makes for an amazing sipping brew.
Decadence pours to a murky caramel to amber color with a slight head that fades and a moderate to soft carbonation. The nose on this beer is wonderful with lots of big sweet malty aromas, estery fruit, a melange of spice, and hints of peppery alcohol. The palate is rich and oily on the tongue with lots of big flavors. Sweet malt, fruit, honey, and spice all glide over the tongue and fill the mouth. Decadence finishes with more of the big sweet malt, honey, and spice flavors up front, then ends slightly cloying with a nice warming alcohol burn that lingers.
Decadence is a very apt descriptor. This is a rich, delicious, very satisfying brew, one that you will want to sip and savor. I would not pair this one with food, rather enjoy it after a meal, or with a good book or movie. Available for only a limited time, in select markets, Decadence is well worth seeking out. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 22, 2006 Bottled. Pour was a clear deep orange with only a ring of beige head. There was a whole helluva lot going on in the aroma... powerful spices (nutmeg and allspice among others), strong alcohol, and an underlying honey sweetness. Flavor had an underlying caramel and honey sweetness... with over-the-top spices and alcohol burn on the back end. It was hard to pick out hoppage in here, which would have helped. Long, thick, and cloying spicy alcohol finish. Interesting experiment.. can’t say that I found it enjoyable, though. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 17, 2006 12oz bottle. Clear ruby brown body. Currant, flan (this sweet caramelized sugar thing), alcohol comprise a sweet aroma. Loads of sweetness in the flavor. Tons. It’s supposed to be balanced by nutmegy spice and piney hops but it’s still way too sweet. Finishes with a light alcohol burn and lingering brown sugar. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/20 | Jan 15, 2006 Clear autumn color. Boozey, rum & coke like nose with hints of baby puke and a ridiculous amount of spices, which show absolutely no balance whatsoever. The worst aroma ever? Quite possibly. Flavor is initially harsh and alcohol driven, and fades a little after warming, yet it still ends up tasting more like a mixed drink, with spiced rum, than it does beer. Light caramel comes out of the fairly large body. Ultimately hot and harsh and extremely overspiced. Hard to consume in a major way. biznizness (940), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA
