| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 28, 2005 22 oz, snifter. Deep and ruddy red hue with a medium, creamy, off-white head. Aromas of honey, cinnamon, dust and caramel. Strong vinous, medicinal and menthol notes. Heavily sweet, light acidic flavor adds only a light bitterness in the finish. Full bodied with a creamy/oily texture and soft carbonation does offer some saving grace. A strong and oddly flavored beer—I don’t think I could finish a bottle on my own. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 28, 2005 Have to admit ... what is it? An American Strong? Who cares I guess! Complex combination of flavors. Almost a few brews in one. Major honey sweet on the initial nose and upon first taste. Also flavorings of spices, a touch of clove perhaps and others I couldn’t easily detect that were masked somewhat by an evident trace of alcohol on the finish. Interesting and good, though I did expect more. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA

Veg. Hardley any head in the golden orange pour. Aromas of spice and sugarcane. Flavors were honey, corriander, honey, and honey. Then some Honey on the finish. Very interesting, but I don’t know if it is a flavor I would like in beer very often.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 15, 2005 Pours a dark red-maroon with an average off-white head. Definately a spiced beer. Cinnamon and other mulling spices dominate the aroma. A sweetness in the aroma, but it appears to be spice induced, not malt. Reminds me of the Great Lakes Christmas Beer. The flavor is full and enveloping. There is a round strong malt with a light roasted character and a bit of a tangy malt complex. Sharp alcohol is noticable but works well with the series of spices. As it warms the alcohol becomes stronger and a bit unballanced. hershiser2 (914), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 10, 2005 Bottle, sampled this evening. Pours light brown ith no head. Aroimas of sweet honey, wildflowers, nutmeg, clove, and cinnamon. Strong alcohol flavor with a sweet honey finish. Has some spice in there as well. Too much of an alcohol flavor for my liking, almost finishing with a nail polish remover-like flavor. JPDIPSO (4911), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 7, 2005 Thick copper liquid as evident by the slow meandering of the bubbles to the top to create a lid of light tan bubbles. Spice laden aromas, with ginger, starfruit, and cinnamon. Honey and praline sweetness beneath the spice. Thick and chewy, mouth-coating heavy oil feel. Nearly to thick and syrupy, but ok for something I expected to different. Some higher alcohol come out in the aroma as it warms. Initial tastes of sweet honey and phenolic resin. Mild cherry and spice come later. Stick seems to be stuck in the back of my throat. A flambé’ of peaches and melon in the mid flavors. Like the raspberry eisbock, this is a pure dessert brew. Rich and decadent. THe spices even seem to have a after dinner herbal quality to help the digestion (have no idea if that is the case though). Stomach and throat are starting to burn, but in a slow warming way. I think this would turn into an awesome old ale in about ten years. Unfortunately I only HAD the one bottle (thanks to Jeff). Wish I would have saved this for the post Thanksgiving meal snifter. Numenor (869), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Nov 5, 2005 Updated: May 5, 20095/5/09 -- I figured my last bottle of this would be nice to have on my 26th birthday. The aroma is still strong as ever, amazing stuff... I could smell it as soon as it hit the glass. Perfect ruby-mahogony body with a medium amount of ivory-tan head. Nice and thick on the mouth with a very floral accent showing through now. A lot of the initial heat has tenuated now, but there is still a great bite to this beer (it could probably go another year or two). Smoother ending than the last one I had but overall, still the same outstanding beer that I’d enjoyed.
4/10/08 -- Got to love this beer. Spices and accents are still there three years later. Great mouthfeel... even better now as some of the harshness is removed. I love this beer, one of my two favorites.
Updated: Feb 12, 2006 A nice spicy beer with an extremely pleasent aroma. The high alcohol content is noticeable, but does not detract from the overall taste in anyway. A very warm and welcome beer to have on a cold winter night. This is my favorite beer of all, the best aroma of any beer I’ve ever seen. Ages extremely well, and just gets better the longer it sits.
