Taste is sweet dark furit, honey, ginger and other spices. BIG alcohol kick to it. Fire on the finish. Damn, this stuff is sweet and harsh on the finish, but it kind of works all together like it is. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 15, 2005 Big beer, big spices, overused 10th anniversary name.
Poured amber, filtered and clear. Sweet spices, cant quite place it but enjoyable. Maybe a bit of nutmeg, alot going on in this bottle. A bit too hot right now, even the honey sweetness doesnt quite offset the high abv. Slightly cloying, but I enjoy it. This one leans on being a mead at times. I enjoyed it as is, so had to get some more to cellar and rerate. Just dont make too many plans after finishing a bottle, potent stuff! Cobra (1065), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA

Poured out a dark copper color, with a slow forming, but lasting, tan colored head. I left it sit for 5 mins, & it formed a thick frothy head. Aromas are of caramel malts, sweet potatoes, and definite alcohol. Flavors are of burnt sugar, earthy funk, and alcohol. Got me ripped on 1/2 a bottle. Dorwart (1814), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 9, 2005 Decent sized tan head. Nice and creamy on top. Does not last long though. Very good carbonation which I did not expect when I opened it. Wow, interesting aroma. Great big smack in the face of mint, spruce, maple and a bit of sweet caramel. Yes the aroma is definately all over the place. Color is a dark amber. Big alcohol presence and wow a big flavor explosion. Thick and syrupy and almost tastes like a peppermint cough syrup. Very sweet and minty with plenty of spices that seem a little hot on the tongue. Also from the alcohol but a bit different. Kind of like dill. Thick palate that lingers for a while. Finishes alcoholic and spicey with more mint. A very interesting combo. This one does not lack for flavor but it is definately something that not everybody is going to like. I find it pretty good though. Jayb0 (752), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA

The nose is all over the place, from over ripe fruit to orchid, to malt, to foresty. Although plenty sweet I think it was quite drinkable, with fermented fruits, ripe plum, caramel, warm alcohol and oddly spicy, perhaps gingery. The taste evolves and new flavors are introduced well downstream. MilkmanDan (1940), Eagan, Minnesota, USA
| 1.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 1/10 | 2/5 | 1/20 | Sep 6, 2005 To forego any potential suspense on this one, this was stinking awful. Clear red-orange with a thin, off-white head. Smells of honey and some nuts, plus sweetened caramel syrup. Also an odd spiciness, sage or mint? Regrettably, I didn’t only smell, I drank. Tragically sweet and syrupy with a bit of fruit trying to claw its way out from the depths of this liquidized evil, but it’s stuck wiggling forever in the thick, viscous goo that is the oversweetened syrup masquerading as a beer in this case. Ah, but there’s an unpleasant alcoholic burn to go with it. Some nuttiness there along with the same odd spice from the nose. Somehow this one manages to be both painfully sweet and dry at the same time, an oral combination I really hadn’t conceived of until now. The honey sweetness is, if the rest of the review hadn’t given a clue, unpleasantly overpowering, and it just does NOT go away. This beer finishes like an uncut David Lynch movie--you keep thinking you’re near the end and then it keeps right on stinking going. It took 20 minutes to get the "flavor" (and I use that term very generously) out of my mouth. It’s like a bad mead gone horribly awry. I still feel like I should send my tongue to counseling to help it get over this one. This. Completely. Sucked. sloth (1677), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 6, 2005 Noisey small tan head, OOOOPS! Dont blink or you,ll miss it! Murky, amber color with a faint red glow. Faint nose of spice and candy sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon? Body is medium, mouthfeel is coating, fairly flat, sticky. Sweet malts, spices, cough syrup and alcohol come together for one fairly foul, palate crushing experience. Finish is overly sweet, overly spicey. I,ll admit i,m not a fan of spiced brews and this beer is a perfect example why. It,s just over done. Not enjoyable at all. A serious dissappointment. But i would expect no less from the good folks at Weyerbacher. An American Strong? An Imperial Holiday brew maybe?Sorry folks, age will not help this beer. The damage has been done. I probably over rated this one. Raaaaaaaalph! Jine (896), Nutley, New Jersey, USA

I’m putting a bottle away for the longterm. Very overpowering on the nutmeg flavor. Way too much. Alcohol isn’t even present, the nutmeg is so powerful, plus whatever. I was so excited about Decadence, and heard such good things, but I’m disappointed. I’ll try it out in a few months, hope its better after 6 months. We’ll see
Anheuser World Select is more awful than this, but I shouldn’t even have to bring it into comparison
