22. Thanks, SuzyGreenberg! Cracked 08 and obviously this is an 05 release. Hazy medium amber; headless, laceless. Big menthol, juniper, and spruce nose. Still. Slightly oily. Menthol, juniper, spruce and some black licorice on the mid-palate. Long menthol finish. What a curious, odd little beer.

Clear copper body with a thin beige head. The smell is indescribably spicy - chamomile, lavender, clove, rum, raisin, snickerdoodles, and cinnamon. Cloyingly sweet taste that is very spicy, almost nose hair singingly hot. Pepper, cinnamon, clove, heather, tea, rum, jasmine, honey, and herbal notes. Phenomenally complex. 3 years in the bottle, and its still needs tons more time to calm down. This was a joy to drink, but a chore to finish.

From 2005 bottle courtesy of santoslhalper. Very aromatic. Spicy with orange peel and witchhazel, like a Ricola cough drop, maybe heather or chamomille. Raisin and rum, alcohol and banana. Vaporous. Coppery brown clear with some sediment. Thin off-white head. Medium-heavy watery body with medium-light carbonation. Big alcohol warming. Starts sweet with caramel malt and booze. Heather, lemongrass, orange peel and brown sugar. Still kind of hot. Finish is pretty sweet with decent spicyness. Tasty but heavy.

Bottle shared by jcb at the carolina crew gathering. Nose had a lot spices, some slight oxidation, sweet malts. Flavor is a hodgepodge of spices and kind of a mess, but I must admit, I was kind of a mess by this point in the night as well.

22oz originally purchased in 2005 at Cairo Liquors, D.C. My early sampling of this beer was, um, less than favorable. It was like sticky solvent, flavored nail polish remover, I don’t know what. But it has really started to emerge as a pleasant brew, I have to say. A nice full orange body, slightly cloudy at this point, but still with some liveliness and carbonation. Tons of spices in the nose, everything from spearmint to coriander and black pepper. There’s a balancing sweetness to the flavor, a good thing since there’s a ton of raw ginger in the taste too. Strange, unpredictable, but not at all unpleasant right now.

2005 Decadence. Cloudy, amber with little head. Caramel, honey, and spices (nutmeg, allspice) in the aroma. Big spicey flavors of clove, cardamom with honey sweetness, peppery hops with a lot of other stuff going on. Full sweet mouthfeel with a sweet honey finish with some spicey astringency. WOW.
