Sweet Malt nose. Even sweeter malt taste. Caramel notes. Good balance of spices, malts and hops.

12oz bottle. With all the recent bad-mouthing of this beer, I had to dig this out of my cellar. Hazy orange/rust color with a small head. Aroma is spicy and sugary; ginger and cinnamon with brown sugar, caramel malt and maybe a little nutmeg. Heavy, sweet taste that starts with the spices and end with the warmth. Full body and syrupy texture.
The alcohol is pretty well covered by this time (2 years), and it really comes down to ’do you like the spices, or don’t ya’? I personally thought the spices distracted from what could have been a fine barleywine, but they also made for an interesting anniversary beer.

Bottle courtesy of pineypower. Tastes more like mead than beer. Honey and a slight taste of Jimmy Dean sausage. Interesting.

THOUGHTS: I was saved this for 2 years. This was the last bottle of it that I had. It’s the longest I’ve been able to age anything. When I first tried it, it was my first truly extreem, high alc. beer. It was a little harsh back then. I had a bottle last year and it was much smoother, but I kind of missed the harshness. Now all the harshness is gone, so some of the flavors seemed a little muted, but it is way easier to drink. If they ever decide to bring it back it would make a nice holiday ale. A really good beer, but an incredible spice beer. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear dark amber with small body praticles of thin density and a small, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was honey, brown sugar and spices. The initial flavor was moderately sweet, while the finish was heavily sweet and lightly acidic and bitter and somewhat sour with an average duration. The dominant flavors were honey, brown sugar and spices. Tasted great but seemed a little watered down compared to when I tasted it fresh, but I guess if I hadn’t had it then I would think this was packed with flavor. The Medium body was syrupy with a moderately alcoholic finish.

Bottle from Irishboy. Amber brown with no head. Aroma is sweet, agave, cherry, mixed fruits, and a differant spiceiness to it. Taste is a light cherry, dried fruit, light oakiness, light alcohol, interesting, but a bit too much like robitussin for me.

hazy red, thin off white head, tart cherry aroma, creamy body, complex flavor with some nice sweetness, cherry tartness, light bitterness, tart cherry and sweet carmel is the dominant character

picking up a bit of sweetness as well in the aroma in addition to a woodyness in the cherry like cherry pits, the honey and spices come out in the flavor and aroma after reaching room temperature

sweet honey aroma with lots of floral spices, sweet honey and spice flavor, like a light spiced mead, no cherry

Pours murky bronze / reddish-orange with a tiny brown head. The aroma has lots of cinnamon, nutmeg and hot pepper. There is also some sweetness, hibiscus and alcohol warmth. Medium / full body with quite a bit of sharp carbonation for being two years old. The flavor starts with spices from the aroma and a heck of a lot of alcohol warmth. The finish has some fruit and squash and more abv warming. An okay beer.

Lots of sweetness and spice to this one, Aroma is spice, like a pie from grandma, flavor is abit more honey like, with some earthiness. Didn’t realize the alc. was so high, drank pretty easy. I enjoyed it!
