Appearance: Pours out a glowing amber body with a bubbly off-white head. Smell: How unexpected! The strong, strikingly unusual scent is noteworthy. Honey sweetness. Wildflowers. Cinnamon. Pepper. And... ...Hmm. This is good and all, but there was something else, some key component I couldn’t quite put my finger on. Juniper? Mint, maybe? Surely, this beer isn’t mentholated. Taste: Flavors reminiscent of honey-glazed almonds and cherry tarts. Alcohol-infused rose petals. A spicy, peppery bite from cardamon. And... ...Hmm. There it is again. In all honesty, the flavor generates the taste from having a shot of Jägermeister. This isn’t funny any more. I stopped by Weyerbacher’s site to discover the Mystery Ingredient: "gentian". "Gentian"? I’m not kidding! This is getting creepy! I decided to do a little research on gentian, so to discover more about this botanical, I visited the Gentian Research Network - a BA-type website for gentian enthusiasts. "Gentians are known to people from North America and Europe as pretty, deep-blue flowers that are found in the Alps and Rocky Mountains." Gentian is used in such beverages as Moxie Soda, Fernet, and Angostura. Here’s something: "Many gentians are endangered in many countries...Some gentians are also becoming rare because of over-collecting in the wild, often for pharmacological purposes." Phew! OK, I am now back on common ground. Mouthfeel: Medium-full body that’s decidedly oily. Routine low carbonation as it is a higher ABV brew. Drinkability: All in all, a very interesting and unique, albeit very hot beer. It’s exceedingly rough around the edges, even a year later. Hopefully, a few more years of aging will greatly benefit this beer.

22 oz bomber. This one poured a muddy murky brown with a small white head, not the prettiest beer by any means. Aroma was very comlex with lots going on...chocolate, floral notes, honey, and mint. Flavor had the mint coming through and reminded me of a girl scout cookie. Very odd beer indeed.

A guy in my homebrew club broke one fo these out. (22oz). Aroma of really outragous spice more like a Christmas beer than a strong ale. The aroma screams clove as it warms many other spices seem to come out. The fruit I got from it was apple. The other spices were like nutmeg and almost like pie. Then the abv came through, in the nose and the flavor. The flavor was full of spice as well. The palate was solid as well with good carbonation and mouthfeel also. Alot of abv that is hidden well when this beer is cold. As it warms it comes out.

22 oz. bottle. Pours exactly the same color as orange pekoe tea with some light haze and a moderate yellow-white head that faded after a few sips. The aroma is caramel, honey, orange zest, and some cloves. The flavor is a bit sweet but not excessive with caramel, honey, oranges and cloves all present. This beer coats the mouth nicely but is not syrupy. Some warming in the aftertaste from the alcohol, but it does not get in the way of the flavors. This ale was something a bit different and I enjoyed it.

got this in a trade but do not know who it was so thank you whoever you are. poured a cloudy amber with no head. aroma, honey, malt, alcohol, citrus. flavor the honey comes out first than a hit of sour fruit, the alcohol is kick butt but nice and smooth , orange zest. I enjoyed this more as this beer warmed .

Pours a hazy dark gold color with medium carbonation. Taste is of sticky sweatness with a lot of honey and spice The alcohol is also distinctly present. I thought that this beer might geet better with age, but it is still a barely drinkable mess.

From Firemoose15 via trade. Thank you Mel! Wow did this beer have a lot going on. A gorgeous copper and ruby pour with an almost one-finger head comprised of tight bubbles. Initially the aroma was spice like sandalwood. I get some pretty weird first impressions from beers, but this one was definitely sandalwood, like the sticks of incense at a Spencer’s Gifts. Maybe some musk too? As it opened up sweetness took over. Not Walter Payton, caramel and honey with some pepper and even a bit of cola. The sticky sweet cola flavor is prevalent in the flavor as well. Some cinnamon and pepper too. An almost velvety mouthfeel. 13% alcohol is incredibly well hidden. Almost like drinking a port or something after dinner.
