dark blackish red pour with a soft tan and webby lacing.
odd aroma... not unpleasant, just unexpected and not one i’ve smelled before... roasted grain, chocolate, molasses, nutty cream, a little smoke and a bunch of ginger.
there is a bunch of fresh ginger flavor in front of everything else... flowers, roast, cream, molasses and faint chocolate with a weird sweet versus spicy finish. throw in some coffee on the aftertaste and get even more confused...
the body is medium. the mouth feel is simultaneously creamy and sharp from the spicy ginger. 7/3/7/4/14/3.5 GAManiac (1123), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 14, 2009 12oz bottle thanks to a couple of generous traders.
Pours dark, dark brown with a small tan head that stays on as a small cap and leaves decent lacing.
The aroma really caught me off guard and I really don’t know how to categorize it. It’s dominated by the ginger which melds interestingly with the sweetish chocolate malts underneath. Very interesting nose.
The taste actually follows the nose which means to say that there are lots of very different tastes to take it. There is certainly a bit of the underlying dark malts and chocolate but the ginger really throws the taste buds for a loop and the finish is spicy and sweet.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied (light if you actually think this is an impy stout) with good carbonation.
This is certainly an interesting attempt by Weyerbacher and while I’m not sure everything comes together perfectly, I always love to try something this original. Marks for creativity here. alobar (1006), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA May 1, 2009 Dark brown with a cream-colored head. Spicy aroma with some chocolate and a little ginger.
