Obvious pine aromas waft off the top as well as some citrus blasts and calming vanilla and caramel scents. Nice piney, hop flavors which are strong but held in check by a toasty malted touch, but still prove to be the dominant attribute. Fairly well balanced and smooth. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 8, 2008 Taste 8/8 Bottle Looks: Clear copper with a thin head that clings. Aroma: Pine, chewy caramel malt, floral, fried chicken(just seeing if you are paying attention). Taste: Medium to full bodied. Quite hoppy, but the Simcoe is floral, soapy and citrus. No hop style is too overbearing. Nice malt balance. Good body, yet drinkable for something of this size. Abv is well hidden. Really good, finish is a little puckering in the cheek asking for more brew. robinvboyer (1436), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 7, 2008 deep amber pour, with a huge frothy sticky off white head. HUGE pungent hop aroma, quite skunky, and intense. Big notes of citrus, and pine. The body is thick, and full. Flavour is very hoppy, this is a mega hop bomb. THis is extreme beer. Extremely bitter, the 9% doesn;t show a bit. Excellent DIPA. BMan1113VR (2897), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 5, 2008 Bottle thanks to ucusty. Pours with a very large, creamy thick, off-white head covering a hazy, deep orang body. Fantastic lacing and full retention. Aroma is beautiful citrus hops with tons of caramel. Taste is a bit hot up front with matls and finishing with a nice bitterness. Alcohol is clearly there in the taste, but it is great in its hop bomb goodness. Creamy mouthfeel coupled with playful carbonation. boto (1339), Granby, Connecticut, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 3, 2008 22oz. bomber: This one pours a hazy orangish-amber color. There was a bit of a frothy tan head on it that dropped off somewhat quickly. It left some lacing. Both the citrus and pine hops are quite obvious to the nose, yet they seem to be balanced nicely. The pine and citrus notes of the hops are evident in the taste, and are well balanced also. Potent but not over the top. Actually a hint of malt sweetness in the finish. This one is pretty well done! | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 2, 2008 Poured from a 12-oz bottle a dark amber color. Not surprising, a hoppy aroma was real prevelant. Taste of citrus and pine in the hops, but could taste some malt coming through also. Although mostly, it was about the hops. smjohnst (203), , Pennsylvania, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 1/5 | 11/20 | Aug 2, 2008 I like IPA’s but this beer was just TOO strong for me. I liked the first half of it but by the end my mouth was just raw. TOO HOPPY! juiceisloose (671), Windermere, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 2, 2008 Updated: Aug 19, 2008Pours a nice bright susnset orange color with a thick off white, foamy head that leaves thick lacing around the glass. This one looks really nice. The aroma shows notes of citrus fruits, piney and grapefruit hops, and a nig caramel malt background. The flavor shows much the same with the citrus and piney hops grabbing hold followed strongly by a rich, caramel and toffee malt backbone. The malts add a nice sweet flavor to the profile. Medium bodied and easy drinking with a great mouthfeel. Very easy to drink with a long, grapefruit hop finish that is nice. This is a good dipa that I could drink often, but it is not quite in the elite category.
