There is citrus, lemon/ grapefruit, too, but the aroma is dominated by pine. The flavor is very pine-y, too, but the finish is slightly bitter, it lets you know that you’re drinking an Imperial IPA, and it lingers, too. Good stuff, but not 90 or Dreadnaught. Great with pizza. blipp (1714), Newark, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours orange with an off white head. Lightly sweet and heavily hopped aroma, grapefruit and pine. Medium body. Very hoppy flavor, again grapefruit and pine. Nice lingering bitterness. This isn’t a bad beer, and I understand why it has such a high score based on how intense the aroma and flavor are. A bit too one sided for me though. Derek881 (502), Frederick, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 19, 2008 Sampled from my friend on tap at Max’s Taphouse in Baltimore. The aroma was big and citrus-dominated, with some straw, spice, and banana notes too. An amber-straw color with an off-white head that was thin and foamy with decent cling and retention. The flavor was strongly hops, with citrus and spice the most present, and a bitter effect. The beer started out wet, but had a dry finish. It featured a full body and good levels of carbonation. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 19, 2008 Found this gem at one of the local bottle shops. I have never seen this brewer before, so I hope everything tastes great. The beer has a decent head retention. The beer has an orange/caramel brown color. The beer is pretty much transparent. Very floral aroma. There is somewhat of a sweet malt aroma to this beer. The hops are very pungent. The hops smell of citrus and pine, and of course the malt smell is there. The beer has a powerful hop taste. The bittering hop is ridiculous, the flavoring hop is ridiculous, but the aroma hop is the weakest of the bunch. The beer does not have much of a malt taste, the hops dominate. The hops are very nice. As soon as I drink the beer the hops are all over my tongue. Very nice and crisp hop flavor. The beer has a nice palate. The beer is not too creamy/oily, but not too thin. The beer has a nice palate. Overall, a great bitter beer with a decent hop aroma, but great hop taste. rajendra82 (704), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 20/20 | Jul 18, 2008 Clear, orange-amber body and a head crowning above the rime greeted me after poring out the newly arrived Double Simcoe into a pint glass. The smell was clean and piney and had spicy undertones and a peach backing. The taste was bitingly bitter with an immediate puckering reaction, which to me is just what a double IPA should induce. There was a lot of pine in every sip. The malts were toasty and nutty, but stood no chance against the hop onslaught. The hop burn in this beer lasted from start to finish and beyond. Just what a double IPA should be. I’ll need to horde more of this. darn1207 (588), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 17, 2008 wohoo!! the initial aroma has a great deal of strong herbal/floral and piny smells with the malts at a medium style but the hops bring it to a everlasting greatness. palate a tad below perfection but the rest makes this a must have.
