This beer had a brassy clear body with some nice head formation. Smell was very hoppy, but smooth around the edges. It was mostly piney and a bit sweet, but the pine was very pronounced...maybe a bit cedar-y in aroma also. Flavor was nice and smooth up-front, with some piney-resiny flavor and a substantial body which seemed almost oat-y in flavor to me. Mouthfeel was smooth and quite nice.
This is a very good beer; I would highly recommend it. SurlySober, Flyer and I split this, New Holland Night Tripper, Ten Fidy, and some Central Waters Coffee Stout, all of which were quite good. craftbeerdesign (754), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 20, 2008 12 oz bottle. pours a deep golden amber with a nice 1/4" white frothy head which lasts almost throughout... it decreases in size as the beer starts to disappear. huge citrusy hop aromas... some grapefruit... nice and smooth over the palate, very soft and balanced. The bitterness takes off on the tip of the tongue and falls back over the tongue to the finish. The nice hoppy finish stays with you for a while... so don’t start the evening off with a IIPA like this... you won’t taste anything else. Excellent IIPA.... highly recommended to any hophead. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 15, 2008 Huge pine aroma on this. Pours a dark amber color with a nice white head. Not much citrus hop character in this one. The flavor is like some kind of atom bomb though. Feels nice and smooth on the front end, but then BOOM what a hop kick! Nice IPA. nuplastikk (1196), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 15, 2008 12oz bottle. Murky amber-orange color. Nice frothy head. Fresh citrus aroma. Big, chewy, and intensely hoppy, with a sticky sweet aftertaste. A lot of Earthy hop character. A great Double IPA. pepsican (885), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Apr 14, 2008 hazy amber with a thin white head. Aroma was peach, mango, banana. Flavor was heavily hopped citrus fruits with a touch of malt backbone. Great fruit going on with this one. Finishes bitter, very tasty! anthlovesbeer (67), north grafton, Massachusetts, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 14, 2008 A nice, well-crafted balance between the hops and citrus flavors. The Simcoe Hops are in the forefront. Not too overpowering. A nice malty finish. Very nice. Well done!
