Commercial Description:
Echo is a “Rye-PA” at 6.8%, brewed with pale, crystal, carapils, and 30% rye malts, bittered to 60 IBUs, and late-hopped with Simcoe and Centennial Hops. This dark-copper ale combines the citrus kick of the hops with the spicy flavor that comes from using 30% rye. This winter IPA will help you bridge the gap between now and Spring.

12oz bottle-pours a tight foamy light tan head and dark amber color. Aroma is medium malt-caramel, rye, secondary pine hops. Taste is medium malt-caramel, rye, secondary pine/herbal hops. IPA meets special bitter. OK carbonation.

On draft at Teresa’s. Poured deep, hazy amber. Where’s the hops? I found this beer one-sided and dominated by rye malt. The hop kick just was never there. Disappointing.

On tap at Oldsmar Tap House. Pours dark amber with a tan head. Nose is rye, malr, and a bit of bread and grass. Flavor is lots of rye with leveling hops and citrus/ pine. Very enjoyable rye beer- relatively light bodied and refreshing.

12oz bottle courtesy of sholland119 poured into a tulip. Trying this one side by side with another recent PA rye beer, Scracth 18. Pours a deep clear amber with a big creamy off-white head that stayed on as a cap for a while and left decent lacing. The aroma was more bready malts than rye with a little bit of spiciness coming through but not much. There was a healthy dose of citrus hops and some caramel sweetness as well. That’s where the spiciness went...to the taste. The taste starts with the same caramel and bready malts that dominated the aroma but the rye really comes on in the finish with a spiciness that builds up after each sip. Naturally, the mouthfeel is very smooth and has decent carbonation. This is a very good rye beer and pretty drinkable. The rye is present but not overpowering by any means which contributes to the drinkability.

On tap @ Redlight. Slightly hazy red-brown color, thin broken white head. Mild grapefruit aroma, some earthy malt notes. Moderate hop presence on taste, muddy on the back end.

Tap at redlight. I had tasted Exponential hoppiness right before, so it’s really not fair. Much much milder hops than I’d have. Amber caramel color. Pretty good.

On tap at OTH. Pours deep copper with off white head and nice full on sheet lacing. The aroma is roasty with a dash of caramel to go along with mild grapefruit hops to faint pine. The taste is roasty with a touch of malt astringency and then a twang of rye. Then I get modest levels of grapefruit hops, tangelo and faint bitter hop resin joining in and taking it to closure. Seems like a solid Amber Ale.
