Commercial Description:
Echo is a “Rye-PA” at 6.8%, brewed with pale, crystal, carapils, and 30% rye malts, bittered to 60 IBUs, and late-hopped with Simcoe and Centennial Hops. This dark-copper ale combines the citrus kick of the hops with the spicy flavor that comes from using 30% rye. This winter IPA will help you bridge the gap between now and Spring.

On tap at Capone’s. This one combines 2 of my top favorites (Rye and IPAs!). Poured a medium amberish/copper color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of rye, floral, citrus, and bready. Tastes of rye, toasty, citrus, caramel, grains, and bready. Lighter bitter finish.

On tap at Frisco Grille: Pours a transparent deep bronze with a thin, stringy-lacing wispy white head. Mild aroma of fresh piny hops and lightly sweet toasty caramel malt. Starts with pretty good fullness and light malty sweetness with a crisp bittering hoppy presence and light citrusy hoppy balance before a drier bittersweet finish. Needs more assertiveness hop character, but an ok IPA.

Draft... Clear, dark, ruby ale with a small, creamy, white head. Nice retention. Earthy hops, lots of pine, spicy rye and mild grapefruit constitute the aroma. Full-bodied with a skim-milk mouthfeel and dancing carbonation. Moderate pine and citric bitterness, rye dryness and low residual sweetness. Finishes crisp, snappily bitter and dry.

Tap at Barcade. Deep amber colour with a thick white head. Aroma is quite spicy. Lots of rye malt character and a bright piny simcoe spiciness. Quite fresh and piny tasting. The palate is very crisp and firm with a nice assertive hoppiness. Light grapefruit flavour as well. Hoppy but not all that bitter. Solid IPA.

Draft at Capone’s. Pours blackish with dark brown edges (I was surprised by the black color in this) with off-tan head. Nose is rye oumpernickly malt, spicy hops, roasty caramel, some earthy peaty notes. Tastes a bit more significant than it smells, with hefty rye malt, caramel, dark chocolate, some nuts, hoppy citrus, and some spiciness. Very good.
