Commercial Description:
Eleven is made with a single variety of hops, Phoenix, from the UK. Phoenix was developed at Wye College to be a high alpha acid (bitterness) hops with a British flavor profile. Phoenix is also low in cohumulone and high in aromatic oils, so you can throw a ton of ’em in and the beer will stay smooth and aromatic. This beer has 109 IBUs in it! The taste profile is incredibly balanced and dangerously drinkable for an 11.7% brew. But don’t look for that grapefruity-piny taste you get from US hops (not that there’s anything wrong with that), these buds are fruity and earthy with an almost berry-like aroma, to give this beer a unique taste among big IPAs. Bitterness we got! And malt to back it up, with the result being a very intriguing beer you’ll just want to sip all night thanks to Phoenix hops. Cheers!

22 oz thanks to dmac621. Thanks Dave. Shared with fordest and another guy. Poured a hazy orange with a decent but quickly fading head. Smells of fruit? Wait this is a triple IPA....Thats right fruit, and malty earthy smells. Taste more malty then hops, But a pretty well balanced beer. Nothing like I expected from a triple. Very good.

22 oz bomber. Pours a hazy murky orangeish amber with a huge creamy white head. Aroma is harsh with grapefruit hops and alcohol dominating. Flavor is similar with bitter hops and loads of alcohol present. This is an alcohol monster and after drinkning this one by myself I could definitely feel the 11.7%. If your looking for a quick buzz then this is a good one to go with.

22oz bottle thanks to Vyvvy for picking this one up on his eastern trip a while back. I drank this beer about 2 months ago and i was pleasntly suprised. I think this thing has mellowed a bit and hs tasting quit nice. cloudy orange with a small frothy off-white head with great lacing all the way down. noce is sugary, lighty citric and fairly balanced for such a big IIPA-not what i was expecting at all. flavors are pine-lots of it-sweet toasted malts, some alcohol, but definately not as fussel as people were saying it was. im pleasantly suprised at how easy this one was to drink. hops are balanced with the big malt backgone here. very resionous finish-cool!

From a 22 oz. bomber bottle with a short blurb on the bottom of label, bottled in 2006, stored at cellar temperature and allowed to warm up a bit before sampling in a tulip glass. Poured a cloudy golden hued tarnished copper with a foamy, small bubbly topped slightly off-white head, settled into a thin sudsy lacing, very minimal amount of sticking. Aromas of raisins and berries, earthy and oily, nuts, sweet grainy malts, a touch of caramel and light whiffs of fusel alcohol. A different, but enjoyable Triple/DIPA taste, I guess it’s the Phoenix hops, dates, raisins and red berries with a woody, earthy bitterness, husky grains with a touch of caramelized sugary maltiness, the alcohol has a medicinal flavor and provides a nice warming presence in the palate, and a sweet hoppy, grainy finish, an earthy bitterness mixed with alcohol lingers in the aftertaste. A tasty sipper on a chilly spring evening, I’m glad I had a chance to try this.

Poured aggressively into a snifter. This beer pours a hazy amber color with a over sized creamy head and great lacing. The aroma was very different from other IIPAs. Very malty, carmelly aroma with a ton of alcohol coming through. I tasted some malt on the front with a hop bitter bite in the end. The alcohol is very burning...really letting you know it’s there. This is a different kind of beer. It doesn’t live up to many other IIPAs, but I think they were going for the high ABV.

Bottle and served in my GI IPA tulip: Pours a slightly hazed sunset amber with a mostly lasting head and good lace. The aroma is the first key that this beer is if anything a Strong Ale and NOT AN IIPA for the massive malt sweetness covers most of any hop aromatics in the brew. Mostly grassy and moderately fruity but those caramel and biscuity malt dominate more than I have ever seen in the genre. There is notes of cardamom and clove in addition to what strikes me me has a weizen yeast character.

The taste is mostly malt sweetness with a finishing hop bitterness, think English Strong Ale on the palate. Undertones of sea salt and brine as well. The mouth feel is soft and sticky as well as a notable level of alcohol brashness. I AM NOT RATING THIS TO STYLE, but rate it more as a young English Strong/ American Strong/Barleywine hybrid...and then it is not so bad... actually needs a lot more age to it. (I gave this a bonus point overall for attempting one hop release)

22oz. Bottle from eaglefan538. Sweet fruit and caramel malt for aroma. Dark amber body with white head and lace thoughout the two pints of beer from bottle. Aroma had a good dose of alcohol and first swig was just that, wow. Sweet carmel sugar along with the kick. Seemed to have some cherry fruity flavor as well. Alcohol is harsh along with a dry palate. I guess when they say extreame brews this has to be one of them.

22 ounce bomber. Dark orange color, large head. Mild aroma. Powerful flavor, with heat, big, minty hop flavors and major bitterness. Very fruity and caramel-like as well. Impressive.
