Commercial Description:
Eleven is made with a single variety of hops, Phoenix, from the UK. Phoenix was developed at Wye College to be a high alpha acid (bitterness) hops with a British flavor profile. Phoenix is also low in cohumulone and high in aromatic oils, so you can throw a ton of ’em in and the beer will stay smooth and aromatic. This beer has 109 IBUs in it! The taste profile is incredibly balanced and dangerously drinkable for an 11.7% brew. But don’t look for that grapefruity-piny taste you get from US hops (not that there’s anything wrong with that), these buds are fruity and earthy with an almost berry-like aroma, to give this beer a unique taste among big IPAs. Bitterness we got! And malt to back it up, with the result being a very intriguing beer you’ll just want to sip all night thanks to Phoenix hops. Cheers!

bottle - Cloudy apricot in color with a nice size head that quickly dissapated. Aroma is an earthy dried fruit with a slight sweetness. This one will really shock you if you read the words ’Triple India Pale Ale’ on the label. While there are plenty of hops in this beer it doesn’t bite like some high hop ales can, sorry hop heads. The malt balance and the almost syrupy palate make it go down very smooth. The bitterness from the hops come through only at the end. One would never think this to be 11.7 ABV! This is a beer to take your time with...explore and enjoy! It’s really different.

I love me some IIPA’s and this did not disappoint. Unique hop character and pleasing aroma. Pretty tasty east coast style iipa. Would drink regularly if I had that option.

Gift from adrian910ss. Dark hazy orange amber in color. Off white head bleands right into the rest of the fluid in the glass. Looks a bit thick and syrupy or resiny. Aroma of alcohol, malt, and a bit of wood. Flavors of almond cheese danish, hop flavor tasted of a dirty ashtray. Reminds me of a woody flavor added to a Stone 10th. Very dry finish. It may be the lack of a hop blend that did not do it for me with this brew. The malt in definitly there, the hop just doesn’t speak to me. Lots of alc!

Out of the twelve oz. bottle. Hazy orange color with a creamy biege head that leaves good lacing. Damn this is a powerful beer. I get all 11.7% right up front. When I first opened the bottle I thought I got a whiff of cherries, and the nose is very sweet with tangerine and melted caramel. This is definitely a sipping beer. The alcohol in my mouth feels like I just did a shot of something vaguely dangerous. The initial taste is very green with lots of celery, pine and herbs that I can’t identity (sage?). The bitterness turns into orange peel and resin. Very dry, with a long, almost painful burn on the tongue. I consider myself a hop head, but this is a challenging beer. I’ll give them unique and intriguing, but I’m not sure I like it.

(Bottle) Pours a cloudy burnt orange body with a moderate off-white head. Aroma of caramel, pine, citrus, and breadiness. Lots of toasted malt and hops carmed in with a good balance. However, the hops had a somewhat unappealing flavor that did not settle that well with me. Bitter finish.

The aroma is really nice on this beer. Lots of fruity pineapple, and some mango smells really shine through on this beer. Kind of reminds me of what I smelled in the Stone 10th (although I only had that once, and it was a while ago). I also pick up on some berries as the commercial description eludes to. The flavor really disappointed on this one. Its not real bad, its just no where near what you get in the aroma. Lots of alcohol is present with some weird off flavors in the back end. It is very syrupy and sweet for a double or triple or whatever the hell kind of ipa that it is. Its alright, but a far cry from what I want in an ipa.

Bottle (650ml). Thick brown-orange pour, murky and lively, huge lasting thick foamy-creamy beige head, lovely thick lacing. Musty driftwood aroma, leafy and acidic, a hint of sour milk, funky sour hops - hardly any alcohol. Taste - wow! - acidic funky hops, celery, wood resin, lots of alcohol, very malty. Thick, syrupy body, sticky, acidic. astringent and heavily boozy mouthfeel - long, long bitter linger and aftertaste. Big, strong, aggressive beer - very good but I wouldn’t have it many times, that’s for sure.

Amber body with a creamy off-white head. The aroma is fresh green hops, apricot, orange and caramel. The flavor is toffee, caramel, chocolate and citrus. Medium/full body with a soft, smooth and creamy texture and a bit of heat on the finish.
