Commercial Description:
Eleven is made with a single variety of hops, Phoenix, from the UK. Phoenix was developed at Wye College to be a high alpha acid (bitterness) hops with a British flavor profile. Phoenix is also low in cohumulone and high in aromatic oils, so you can throw a ton of ’em in and the beer will stay smooth and aromatic. This beer has 109 IBUs in it! The taste profile is incredibly balanced and dangerously drinkable for an 11.7% brew. But don’t look for that grapefruity-piny taste you get from US hops (not that there’s anything wrong with that), these buds are fruity and earthy with an almost berry-like aroma, to give this beer a unique taste among big IPAs. Bitterness we got! And malt to back it up, with the result being a very intriguing beer you’ll just want to sip all night thanks to Phoenix hops. Cheers!

22 oz. bottle via trade with jasonmech77 - Pours an amber color with a big off white head. Nice lacing. Has a strong, sweet, herbal aroma. Has a sweet, bitter citrus flavor. Lingers on the palate. Alcohol is slightly noticable. Thick, resiny, and chewy. Medium to full body. A very nice sippin’ beer. Thanks Jason.

(22oz bottle) Hazy amber topped by a large, frothy beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, pine/grapefruit, herbal, some alcohol, caramel. Taste is medium sweet, grapefruit/herbal, pine, alcohol. Medium-full body, moderate resin.

22 oz. bottle, many thanks to my great trading partner slob! Pours a hazy, yet still brilliant orangey amber color with a relatively small off-white head. Yikes! I didn’t read the details before I opened this goodie on a weekday night - 11.7 abv - wowee! Anyway, aroma is of course heavy on the hops with citrus, herb and floral notes, however it seems well balanced by sweet fruity and caramel malts and a hint of spice with the alcohol surprisingly well hidden. The flavor remains fairly consistent with a bold hop profile delivering a huge dose of bitter floral herbiness and heavy acidic earth, to the tongue, but at the same time there’s an oddly rich and sweet - almost cloying - malt presence to puzzle the palate and leave the tastebuds a bit bewildered as to how to interpret it all. And not unexpectedly, there’s a noticible alcohol bite in the finish. The mouthfeel of this most audacious brew is thick and full, with a creamy carbonation that arises when swirled gently in the mouth.

Aroma you can smell from feat away... very fruity and floral. Heavy hops, alcohol, dried fruit, bit of chocolate showing up also. Interesting. Color is a brown amber with a frothy tan head. Taste is very very alcoholic, hops have faded down, and this beer is just pretty bad, it’s like crap rum.

22oz. bomber: This one poured a cloudy, somewhat orangish color. Mine had about 2 fingers worth of an off-white head on it. There was some lacing down the glass. The aroma is definitely up front with this one. Suprisingly, the hops don’t cover everything up. In fact, they are almost subdued. Some earthy and grassy hop notes, but there is fruit in there. Almost Belgian like. Definitely some caramel malt sweetness coming out on top. I was expecting something really good, but then I tasted it. Let’s say it is unique. It is bitter with a strange fruity taste to it. A hint of dryness in the aftertaste. Unique is a very accurate description. I think that this one needs to sit quite awhile to see what it can really be.

After drinking a Double Simcoe, this is a disappointment. Aroma has hints of caramel, but the hops are present. Flavor is hop driven with a significant alcohol presence. I do notice the presence of melon. Not a bad brew, but a bit unbalanced.

Pick up beer at kps celler tasting. Thanks to the guys who made the drive. Pours a hazy copper. An aroma of hops and a fruitiness that I can’t id but it is not unpleasant. The flavor is citrusy, hoppy and malty. It is almost hot but not. That means it is a little more than warm. I liked this beer but was not overwhelmed. Again I like it. Thanks to the guys who made the drive.
