Commercial Description:
Eleven is made with a single variety of hops, Phoenix, from the UK. Phoenix was developed at Wye College to be a high alpha acid (bitterness) hops with a British flavor profile. Phoenix is also low in cohumulone and high in aromatic oils, so you can throw a ton of ’em in and the beer will stay smooth and aromatic. This beer has 109 IBUs in it! The taste profile is incredibly balanced and dangerously drinkable for an 11.7% brew. But don’t look for that grapefruity-piny taste you get from US hops (not that there’s anything wrong with that), these buds are fruity and earthy with an almost berry-like aroma, to give this beer a unique taste among big IPAs. Bitterness we got! And malt to back it up, with the result being a very intriguing beer you’ll just want to sip all night thanks to Phoenix hops. Cheers!

Bomber; nose with faint hops mixed with fruit, caramel, and citrus; orange with a small pale yellow head; flavor of spicy fruit mixed with caramel malt, all in a very thick body; light alcohol notes trail into a late arriving hop bitterness. This has a light barleywine flavor, more than an IIPA. Is this a BARLEYWINE IPA cross?

22 oz bottle. Enjoyed on Strong Ale brew day with Scott alone. Hazy orange with a thick medium sized head. Jolly ranchers come to mind at first sniff. Passion fruit, pineapple and candy like malty caramel as well. Sticky malt caramel with wonderfully layered hops. Citrus, pineapple and other tropical fruit moving into citrus peal and great pine sap flavors. Just delicious. Some alcohol notes. Body is full with a dry finish and just the right amount of carbonation. I have no idea why more people did not enjoy this. Great Brew!

Pours a fiery copper color with a dense eggshell head. Very nice citrusy aroma with notes of booze and malts. Fairly full body and sticky on the tongue. A decent amount of caramel with huge bitterness in the aftertaste that lingers for quite a while. Lot’s of alcohol in the finish too. I bet this would be nice in a couple of years. It seems to be a little young right now.

nice copper colored pour w/ a thick dense white head w/ some great lacing. sweet aroma lots of carmels some pine resins and a hot alcohol. well coated lightly thick palate. Flavor is very odd.. some pines and a wierd floral flavor that is kind of tongue offensive... some sweet carmels, alcohol notes... Not very good.

Pours dull opaque orange with a mountainous head. Lightly sweet tropical aroma with pineapple and strawberry. Weird woody and earthy flavor with notes of green apple. Very bitter, perhaps too bitter. Lean malt flavor with some caramel. The hops have some spicy Styrian Goldings similarities. I would be interested to know the yeast used. Instead of an IPA, I might call this a Triple Bitter. Distinct, though unbalanced.

Dark copper with huge off white head, great lacing. Aroma has a huge citrus/carribean fruit character. Lots of orange, tangerine and melon. Huge malt background. Up front has a nice caramel kick, then the flavor is all downhill. Huge alcohol and metallic like finish. Very dissapointed. Maybe this is a bad bottle, maybe I will revisit, I don’t know.
