Commercial Description:
Eleven is made with a single variety of hops, Phoenix, from the UK. Phoenix was developed at Wye College to be a high alpha acid (bitterness) hops with a British flavor profile. Phoenix is also low in cohumulone and high in aromatic oils, so you can throw a ton of ’em in and the beer will stay smooth and aromatic. This beer has 109 IBUs in it! The taste profile is incredibly balanced and dangerously drinkable for an 11.7% brew. But don’t look for that grapefruity-piny taste you get from US hops (not that there’s anything wrong with that), these buds are fruity and earthy with an almost berry-like aroma, to give this beer a unique taste among big IPAs. Bitterness we got! And malt to back it up, with the result being a very intriguing beer you’ll just want to sip all night thanks to Phoenix hops. Cheers!

So the English learned to grow good hops, huh? Huge hop flavor. Extremely sticky and resiny hop flavor with pine, bubble gum and gummy bears. Citrus flavor is there too, but takes a backseat to the sticky-sweetness. Huge malt up front. Biscuity flavor. Light but intense. Massive sweetness is balanced well by enormous bitterness in the back. It all comes together so well though. The beer is huge in every way, but carefully crafted to maintain balance. Everything fits together perfectly. Even the big alcohol burn is kept at bay by the rest of the flavors. This is the definition of a big beer, and done very well.

22oz bottle-pours a foamy to rocky light tan head that laces with copper color. Aroma is sweet citrus hops, floral, bubble gum. Taste is slick mouthfeel, burning medium hops, floral, fruit, secondary malt. Good for one.

light brown with good head. I may have expected too much from this beer. rather weak hop aroma with too much malt for a "triple IPA" not well balanced and alcohol is overbearing. this was a miss for me. maybe try one after some cellaring.

This entered the glass with a thick, viscous pour of hazy amber, that raised a tall, thick, long lasting off-white head. Rich, complex caramel aroma that is reminiscent of a barleywine. Some alcohol. The flavor is sweet and alcoholic, again a barleywine comes to mind. A slight alcohol burn in the bitter finish. Good but off style. This is what I expect in an American Strong Ale or Barleywine.

Clear, orange-golden color. Malt and citrusy hops both noticeable in the aroma. This was more malty and sweet, with less bitter hop taste, than expected for a Double IPA. I enjoyed that (and the minimal alcohol taste despite the high content), though definitely lacking some hops considering the style.

Bottle. Clear orangey appearance. Lots of citric aromas and some slight alcohol burn on the nose. Loads of sticky orange rind flavours. Quite sweet, acidic and bitter (and also stciky and alcoholic) all at the same time. A bit overdone.

Poured an orange color with a massive head which lasted well and solid lacing. Aroma was a good blend of malts and hops, some nuttyness to it as well. Flavor was of pine citrus some caramel strong alcohol. Solid beer.

12oz bottle: Pours a murky orange amber with a thick, frothy, and well-lacing bone-colored head. Aroma abounds with a lot of fresh citrusy grapefruity hops and plenty of sweet caramel malt. First sip excites the palate with velvety sweet and viscous toasty crystal malt floating in a river of grapefruity hops. A crisp finish hides most of the alcohol leaving a good lingering stcky bittersweetness. An enjoyable triple IPA.
