Commercial Description:
This fantastic brew began its life as "Charlie", the third installment of the Brewer’s Select Series. It is now part of our seasonal lineup and will be released in the month of January. It is an intricate dark ale with a touch of smokiness. The rich malt flavor, crisp bitterness and smoke reach perfect equilibrium in this brew. At 7.5% abv, Fireside Ale will warm you up as the temperature drops.

Bottle from Captain Cougar. Lots of appreciation. Dark reddish copper color with a slight beige/tan head. Aromas of dark malt with a little smoke. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is quite smokey. Other than that there’s some malt and light hop. This is a very good ale, refreshing and enjoyable. Every taste is a joy. I think this stuff tends to be underrated.

Deep cola coloured brownish copper tinted body with a thick dense tan head. Aroma of metal, raisins, cherries, alcohol, pit fruits and a bit of spice. Medium-bodied; Strong assertive malt taste up front showing some smoked peat, but not much. Aftertaste shows a TON of nuts, alcohol, a touch of spice (nutmeg and allspice are most prevalent) and some brown sugar. Overall, lacking on the smoked qualities, but heavy on the alcohol and bitterness from the malt - not very telling. Probably not worth trying, unless you are a big Weyerbacher fan or want to sample all of the Rauch’s out there. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits in Washington, D.C. on 07-March-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 31-March-2009.

Sampled at Beerhawk’s Beer Gods in the Boro, aka 1000 Bottles of Beer on the Wall, By God Beer God Gathering, BG1K Tasting - Simple smoke aroma. Nice light peat and ham flavors. A little cardboardy. Very good example of style and easy drinking.

Bottle. Very low on the smoke character in the nose, at least upon initial sniff. Nice mohagany color with a small off-white head. Note of caramel, light bitterness from the hops also noted. Smoke more prevalent in the flavor. Pretty easy drinking and a good effort from Weyerbacher.

(12oz bottle) Small beige head atop clear walnut brown body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, toffee/molasses, nut. Smokey characteristic asserts itself as the beer warms. Taste is medium sweet, nut, tobacco, some smoke, light toffee. Medium body, light acidity.
