Commercial Description:
This fantastic brew began its life as "Charlie", the third installment of the Brewer’s Select Series. It is now part of our seasonal lineup and will be released in the month of January. It is an intricate dark ale with a touch of smokiness. The rich malt flavor, crisp bitterness and smoke reach perfect equilibrium in this brew. At 7.5% abv, Fireside Ale will warm you up as the temperature drops.

Tap at Mile Square, Hoboken. Deep brown beer with a thick white head. Aroma is lightly malty with a kiss of soft spiciness and an even softer smokiness. Nice soft crackery malt base. Flavour also has a touch of soft smokiness. Slightly sticky and a little bit bland in spite of it. There is not really a whole lot going on in here. Fairly hoppy/herbal bitterness. I can’t say I care for this all that much.

bottle: pours a dark brown with a crimson hint. small soapy bubble tan head. aroma is sweet with plenty of nuttiness and a very small hint of smoke, slight chocolate and very hints of roast. flavour is more smoke with a good sweet caramel malt, good hit of roast in the back palate and some chcoalte to go with it. slight aftertaste that takes away from the beer alittle. overall pretty solid

Pours a reddish-brown color with a tan head. Aroma is smoked, roasted malts, dark fruits, and a little bit of hops. Flavor is of bacon, smoke, caramel and roasted malts. Slight finish of some hops. Pretty decent brew.

Thanks to Dmac for a bottle of this. Pours out a somewhat clear reddish tinged brown with a small lacing white head. Aroma is of smoke, caramel malts and some fruity notes. Taste is complex and well balanced, smoke isn’t overwhelming but is present throughout, some nice sweet malts, caramel, toffee and some other fruity notes in there also, no trace what so ever of the 7.5%.

Brown with dense off-white head. Toasty malt aroma. Sweet malt flavor with some roasted malt makes this a nice full flavored seasonal brew. Finishes clean.

Ah- didnt realize this was the old Charlie. Pours a deep dark amber with a decent lasting head. Aroma is smokey spicy, black pepper- smoked meats and campfire, although not over the top with a smokey chipotely pepper kick. Sweet flavor- some caramel and toasted malts , toffee, molasses a bit crackery and starts to dry out about half way throuhg with more pepper and spic and a low dull cold smoke thing going on.

Bottle, shared w. Tim & Jacob. Really pretty dark ruby, fluffy tan head. Nose is smoke & a kind of rye maltiness. Flavor is smoke, rich caramel, toffee. A bit of cocoa in the finish.
