Commercial Description:
This fantastic brew began its life as "Charlie", the third installment of the Brewer’s Select Series. It is now part of our seasonal lineup and will be released in the month of January. It is an intricate dark ale with a touch of smokiness. The rich malt flavor, crisp bitterness and smoke reach perfect equilibrium in this brew. At 7.5% abv, Fireside Ale will warm you up as the temperature drops.

Light chestnut color with thin head. Flavor was thin with mild smokiness but mostly a sweet bandaid flavor that I found rather unappealing (as if a bandair flavor could possibly be appealing!). Thank goodness I split the bottle with my dad and only had 6 oz. I usually like Weyerbacher, but this is a loser.

Small tan head thats short lived. Decent lace. Hazy brown amber color. Light nose of smoke and malts. Body is med/light. Light roasty flavors, a touch of camp fire and jerky. Lightly spicey. Dry, malty, smokey(gently) finish. More smoke woulda been nice.

Bottle. Pours to a very dark rusty brown/red body with a coating light khaki head and subtle lacing. The aroma is nicely smoked malt with a subtle yeast and juniper berries. The flavor is dark Belgian like malts and Bamberg type smoked malts. Subtle yeasts and light pine hops. The palate is medium bodied and well carbonated. Dry and slightly dusty.

Appears..pretty damn cool. Very dark brown, clear in parts you can see through. The crown off white head is nice and lacey. Scent is a hint of smoke over some of the darker malt scents. Very light alcohol scent, no sign of hops. I take that back, after several attempts, I can detect an earthy hop scent. Good, though with a smoked beer, it’s pretty black and white, either good, or too much. Taste. MMM..this is actually damn good! Smoke hits you off the bat, but since I’m a seasoned veteran of smoked only being applied to porter, this was a pleasant surprise. There is definiately some malty action there but it reminded me more of a robust barleywine than any porter. Very good. Mouth is medium bodied and medium/heavy carbonation. Good. Very drinkable, and I wish I could remember where I got it so that I could pick up some more. A good beer indeed.
