Commercial Description:
This fantastic brew began its life as "Charlie", the third installment of the Brewer’s Select Series. It is now part of our seasonal lineup and will be released in the month of January. It is an intricate dark ale with a touch of smokiness. The rich malt flavor, crisp bitterness and smoke reach perfect equilibrium in this brew. At 7.5% abv, Fireside Ale will warm you up as the temperature drops.

I’ve had this 4-pack for some time now and found myself enjoying a bottle every so often. Described as an intriguing dark beer with a touch of smokiness. Heavy brown body with a lasting 1/2" head and great looking lacing. Molasses, toast and smoke on the nose. Thick and creamy, lightly sweetened and malty. Tastes of toasted bread, heavy cream and English malts. A noble hop presence provides some balance. There is an underlying smoke flavor that ties this together, it’s subtle and easily noticed. Very well done.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a small, fizzy, off-white head, diminishing with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, caramel), light hop (herbs), average yeast (dough) with notes of dates and smoke. Medium bodied, gritty texture, lively carbonation, and a metallic finish. Long duration, light sweetness and bitterness, moderate acidity.

Bottle. Pours murky brown with no head. The aroma is decently smoky. It’s meaty with hints at campfire. I know this is supposedly an ale, but it sure smells like a lager. It has a vegetal crispness about it with some bacon fat going on. The palate is medium, kind of silky smooth. The amount of smoke here is not quite enough for me, though it does provide some delightful bacon/campfire flavors. It seems that Weyerbacher has attempted to replicate a traditional rauchbier. The smoke is tasteful, not obnoxious, and the beer is crisp. I was kind of hoping for a heavier, hearty, way smokier ale, but this isn’t bad. My only problem is the presence of corn notes in the finish.

A tall, tight tan head sits over this murky brown brew. Sweet malt aroma that is repeated in the flavor. Not much smoke here.

Modest light beige head but it lasts. Leaves decent lace. Dark brown, but bright light shines through. Appears to be clear. The smell is mostly dark crystal malts. No sugar smells--very dry. I don’t detect a lot of smoke here. As a general rule, I’m not a big fan of smoked beers, but I do like this one. The smoke element is present and subtle, lending to a interesting balance of the darker crystal and light hop. The beer is on the dry side but not in an astringent sort of way. Nice body that tips a little to the richer side. This is accented by the carbonation tipping to the low side. The aftertaste is a long lasting version of the flavor profile.

Bottle, thanks to WeeHeavySD for sharing! Pours a dark brownish-red with a bubbly off-white head. Rich aroma, herbal, with malt, smoke, wood, and grass. Big taste, a lot of smoke, with malt and wood. Lingering sharp smokiness. Tasty.
