Commercial Description:
This fantastic brew began its life as "Charlie", the third installment of the Brewer’s Select Series. It is now part of our seasonal lineup and will be released in the month of January. It is an intricate dark ale with a touch of smokiness. The rich malt flavor, crisp bitterness and smoke reach perfect equilibrium in this brew. At 7.5% abv, Fireside Ale will warm you up as the temperature drops.

Not a smoked. Can’t be. It just can’t be. Poured amber with a white head. Aroma of caramel. Sweet malt flavor with a hint of fruit. Finish dry. Drank pretty good but no smke or meat.

On tap at RFD in D.C. The concept of a smoked brown ale is what attracted me to this one. It pours a clear, light, reddish brown color with a small, foamy, off-white head. I was expecting a smoky nose and I got a bit of smoke, but it was much lighter than I was expecting. Touches of malt sweetness and wood are also present. The flavor does a good job of using smoke, but not overwhelming you with it. Big raw honey notes, smoke, wood, and malt sweetness rounds things out. Medium bodied, this is a good winter beer. I certainly felt like I had enough after one pint. Definitely worth a try, but not something I would drink several of.

Mohagany color with a thin, off white head. Brown sugar and smoked sausage nose. Raw sugar sweetness with some smoked meat , burnt toast, and campfire notes, but pretty subtle.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of TheCheeseMan. Pours a light brown with a beige head. Aroma has roasted malts with a distinct whiff of peaty smoke. Body is fairly solid, base has roast and toffee but it’s the peaty smoke that dominates working as an enticing spice. Finish is vaguely hoppy but it’s the smoke that follows you all the way through. 221109

12 fl oz bottle. Pours slight hazy dark brown to deep orange with a small off-white head. Aroma is roasted malty and vague spiced. Sweet malty flavoured with a nice smoke note from back of the tongue. Vague baconish touch. Ends slight sweet and subdued smoked into a lingering mild finish.

Draft at RFD. Lots of peat and smoke in the aroma. Thin palette, some malt on the finish. Dark brown with no head. Pretty smooth. A good fireside sipper, almost tastes like it’s barrel-aged, but it isn’t. Good contextually, I’d like to sit by the fire and enjoy some of these.

This is truly a fantastic brew. The aroma is a subtle sweet caramel candle smell with a hint of a malty porter flavor but much more subtle. Yes, there is a hint of smokiness but almost invisible. This is a warming fireside brew, but I would also be opt to drink this one just about anywhere anytime. Excellent beer with a great balance of alcohol.
