Commercial Description:
To honor 14 years of making craft beer we decided to brew a wheat wine. This unfiltered brew is made with over 50% wheat to give it a distinctly spicy character. Enjoy it now, or if you have the patience, give it some time in your cellar. When you are ready, expect to find notes of tart wheat and honey with crisp bitterness and carbonation. Recipe by Head Brewer Chris Wilson and Brewer Jeff Musselman.

Bottle 355 ml (2009)
Appearance : stormy haze on amber clouds. Mid , average looking creamy heavy blanket of foam.
Nose: frontal bubble gum with hint of fresh grain, barley with drying alcohol. Hint of cherry. 6+
Flavor/Palate : mellow low carbonated full bodied ale. Ultra potent yet quiet approachable. Unfermented sweet sugars leave space for further ageing. Caramel malt as base. Neat finishing softness with hint of bittering hop. Late mineral feel with top of alcohol. Good work.

THOUGHTS: A very sweet barley wine that hid the alcohol fairly well. Not the greatest barely wine, but a nice beer. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a medium dark orangey amber with a small, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was caramel malt and that barley wine smell, wine, honey, coriander, candied oranges and spices. The initial flavor was rather sweet while the finish was very sweet with an average duration. The was carmel, fruit, that barley wine smell and honey. The medium to full body was syrupy and a bit sticky on the lips with fizzy carbonation and a lightly alcoholic finish.

Promising wheat wine, ample time in the cellar should hopefully soften this one out. Earthy yeast aroma with a fair amount of banana, red apples and glazed doughnut accents. Pours a bright golden orange with low carbonation and a swirling, filmy head that leaves little lacing behind. Sweet and dry body, highly boozy which warms the belly. It’s a bit too abrasive right now and the harshness really started to show after half the bottle was gone. Lot of fruity flavors such as apricot and banana with vanilla and grass notes. Real yeasty and sugary with a dry, hot finish.

Tallahassee, Fl. - New Leaf Market - 12 oz bottle. Pours a murky dark orange with nary a speck of head. Aroma is alcohol dominant with some traces of bourbon, cherries, and molasses. Belly warming flavor with some alcohol burn, sweet molasses, spiced apricots, dates and sweet cherries. Mouthfeel is thick and rich. Would be good to sip by the fire on a cold night.

Muddy copper colored with a nice off-white head. Dark fruit aroma...plums, cherry, banana esters and some light honey notes also. Sweet malts, wheat, and some fruity pear/apple notes lead into an assertive bitter finish. Some alcohol and a woody astringency linger on the tongue.

BiBottle. Pours a dark honey color with a brown head. Spicy nose is complimented by very spicy flavor. Honey flavor with alcohol flavor. Big beer with lots of spice. More straightforward than I expected.

Generally a nice Belgian aroma, with good banana and gum esters - sweet and yeasty. There were some stray off-tones to the aroma, but nothing that was a major flaw. I was at a bit of a quandry for appearance marks - the beer itself is a nice orange-brown, cloudy, with an eternal head. The label was a trip to clipart hell, so it only gets a 3. Sweet, citrusy, woody, syrupy. The sweetness doesn’t really mask the alcohol very well. This turned out to be a chore to drink. There were some strange strains in there, and the various flavors didn’t really ever achieve harmony. Heavy body, woody bitter aftertaste, with pecan at the very end, and a bit of a whisky burn after you swallow. New Leaf Market.

Bottle. Glowing orange color...small head. Nice aroma, spicey, light banana and wheat. Taste is honey, light wheat, and banana. Not sweet or bitter. The alcohol is warming. Medium texture.. I wouldnt call this a barleywine....But what ever it is....its pretty tasty! I will have to pick up a couple bottles to age...
