Commercial Description:
To honor 14 years of making craft beer we decided to brew a wheat wine. This unfiltered brew is made with over 50% wheat to give it a distinctly spicy character. Enjoy it now, or if you have the patience, give it some time in your cellar. When you are ready, expect to find notes of tart wheat and honey with crisp bitterness and carbonation. Recipe by Head Brewer Chris Wilson and Brewer Jeff Musselman.

Muddy copper colored with a nice off-white head. Dark fruit aroma...plums, cherry, banana esters and some light honey notes also. Sweet malts, wheat, and some fruity pear/apple notes lead into an assertive bitter finish. Some alcohol and a woody astringency linger on the tongue.

BiBottle. Pours a dark honey color with a brown head. Spicy nose is complimented by very spicy flavor. Honey flavor with alcohol flavor. Big beer with lots of spice. More straightforward than I expected.

Generally a nice Belgian aroma, with good banana and gum esters - sweet and yeasty. There were some stray off-tones to the aroma, but nothing that was a major flaw. I was at a bit of a quandry for appearance marks - the beer itself is a nice orange-brown, cloudy, with an eternal head. The label was a trip to clipart hell, so it only gets a 3. Sweet, citrusy, woody, syrupy. The sweetness doesn’t really mask the alcohol very well. This turned out to be a chore to drink. There were some strange strains in there, and the various flavors didn’t really ever achieve harmony. Heavy body, woody bitter aftertaste, with pecan at the very end, and a bit of a whisky burn after you swallow. New Leaf Market.

Bottle. Glowing orange color...small head. Nice aroma, spicey, light banana and wheat. Taste is honey, light wheat, and banana. Not sweet or bitter. The alcohol is warming. Medium texture.. I wouldnt call this a barleywine....But what ever it is....its pretty tasty! I will have to pick up a couple bottles to age...

Poured a vibrant copper hue with little head that left no lacing. Aroma of malt, fruit, and alcohol. Decent malty flavors of caramel and cherries that were drowned out by the alcohol warmth. Finished sweet and a tad bit hot. Eh this was a big disappointment, way too unbalanced. The alcohol shows through far too much.

Sampled on tap at Churchkey in Washington DC. Ugh, what a boozy mess. Pours a translucent amber with zero head and legs like a scotch. Aroma is bready, some dried banana, grass, raisins, grapes. Flavor was more banana, weird caramel, spices, boozy, rum. Finish is hot, sticky, too sweet. Just a boozy mess.

Bottle courtesy of blutt59. Light orange pour. Some sweet malts on the smell with bready notes. Taste has some bitter high grain. Finishes like a fat sweet loaf of yeasty bread.

12 oz bottle-Cloudy golden pour w/a slight white head. Sweet wheat aroma. Ramped up Whit, flavors of wheat, candied sugar, raisens, white grapes, banana, dried fruit, & colander. Very sweet & pretty hot, so this one is a definite sipper, but it was quite good. Long, full finish. I really think it is a crime to call these Wheat Wines Barleywines; they are really just totally different to me. I feel they need their own category as I’d like to be able to more closely track them.
