Commercial Description:
To honor 14 years of making craft beer we decided to brew a wheat wine. This unfiltered brew is made with over 50% wheat to give it a distinctly spicy character. Enjoy it now, or if you have the patience, give it some time in your cellar. When you are ready, expect to find notes of tart wheat and honey with crisp bitterness and carbonation. Recipe by Head Brewer Chris Wilson and Brewer Jeff Musselman.

The pour is really orange, like a belgian wit and has a solid white head that sits a bit but turns to a ringlet really fast. The aroma on this is really quite mild. The typical wheat beer aromas are there, in double intensity, but still not strong. Hard to explain. Some esters, a good dose of spice, Belgian yeast, and a touch of booze. The flavor is huge banana with a touch of bubblegum, phenolics on the sides of the tongue (definite black pepper), and a fair amount of alcohol burn.

Interesting and odd beer. Body of a light pale ale. Taste of a barley wine. Alcohol is strong. Malty without the caramel taste of a barley wine or similar beer.

My bottle [12oz] shared with HogTownHarry. Pours a cloudy orange-amber with an average size diminishing off-white head. Slightly mild aroma of fruit, sugar, alcohol and banana candies. Flavour is sugary with no hops at all and banana candy again, and something there I can’t place that really turns me off -- not how I like my Barley Wines at all (I later found out it’s a Wheat Wine, but still...) Average bodied. I did not care for this.

Pours deep amber into a snifter. Off-white pancake head with good retention. Bubblegum aromas. Syrupy with harsh honey phenols upfront and a lasting bubblegum alcohol burn. Ouch - age is the only thing that can improve this one.

Bottle… Murky dirty-orange ale with a compact, creamy, off-white head. Great retention. The bouquet is fruity and tangy with spicy Belgian notes – clove, lemon grass, pear and apricot. Full-bodied with a buttery mouthfeel and mellow carbonation. Fruity and sweet; boozy and spicy; moderately bitter and mildly acidic. Tangy, bittersweet finish. There’s a lot going on here – not all of it good. Not bad either.

Bottle, courtesy SoLan. Pours a cloudy, glowing, orange-golden hue. A minimal, swirly film forms at the head, leaving no lacing behind. Aromas include bubblegum, honey glazed golden wheat, lemonpeel, and a touch of floral hoppiness. The sweet graininess is a little overwhelming on the nose, foreshadowing the saccharine flavor that is to come. True to form, the wheat grain sweetness comes across as fresh but sugar laden, and though it is fairly hoppy and herbal, with a big lemony component, the bitterness simply fails to keep pace. The big, sugary body comes across with an alcoholic burn on the finish, making it laborious to drink. Decent, but this style is not for me.
