Chocolaty, spicy, banana aroma. Medium-bodied with middling carbonation. Well-balanced flavor. A touch tangy and a bit spicy... chocolaty as well. Finishes crisp and refreshing. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 21, 2009 Enjoyed on tap in a nonic glass. The beer pours a curious near-black color, not quite what one would expect of beers of the Bier de Garde style. The aroma gives Belgian-type yeast esters, but also some roasted malt. The palate also shows some Belgian characteristics, and a nice malt depth, but it did seem to be almost like an English brown ale a Belgian yeast. Admittedly, I have not sampled enough examples of this style to accurately comment on this beer’s trueness to the guidelines. Overall, it was a creative and refreshing effort. mpersinger (191), , California, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 19, 2009 Muted malt flavors in this mild brownish ale that tastes more like a mild or brown ale than a biere de garde. ¾ (5009), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 17, 2009 Draft @ Paradiso. Dark appearane, dunkel or dubbel-like in color. Toffee, nuts, cold coffee, some roast, Dunkel-like in nose and flavor. Bread/bran is present, yeast gives a strange lightness and pastiness to the body, doughy but not chewy. Not really anything close to biere de garde, more like a dunkel with Belgian yeast. argo0 (7014), Washington DC, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 15, 2009 Tap at Spuyten a bit back. Aroma of sweet bread/graham cracker malt; very saccharine breadiness with slightly alcoholic fruits, particularly prunes. Flavor brings on more prunes with spice notes, pepper and something nutmeg-seeming, as well as more sweet fruits that are bordering on medicinal though fortunately don’t make it. Pretty tasty. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 12, 2009 I had know idea what type of beer Foxtrot was, and assumed it was a Scotch Ale. The earthiness came through this malty, spiced Biere De Garde. Rciesla (3880), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA
