| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 5, 2009 Tap at Spuyten Duyvil. Deep hazy brown colour. The aroma is quite fruity and spicy. A touch of bready aroma and a little bit of light yeastiness. Chewy and sweet with a bit of dustiness. Lightly husky with a touch of astringency and a bit of soft earthiness. Lightly spicy with a soft roastiness toward the back. A bit strange and most definitely not a biere de garde. fidelis83 (729), Clinton, Iowa, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 2, 2009 Pours dark brown with a 2- finger creamy tan head that fades to a thick skim and ring and holds. Aroma is caramel, rye bread, some earth, some dried dark fruit notes and a little roast. Flavor is roast, earth, chocolate, dark caramel, star fruit, pear, grass, pepper, old molasses, day old light roast coffee and some apple. Finish becomes a little earthier and the fruit notes come out more as well. Palate is thin-to-medium with a dry yet somewhat slick feel throughout. Carbonation level is a little too hig for my liking. Overall this is a good beer. Went nicely with some Jarlsberg cheese. PhilTheThrill (19), Florida, USA

i just had to ask my dad what a bierre de garde is... he said, "i’m your boss, not your dad, stupid."
anyhow. this beer is apparently "exceedingly complex" - if that means, "wtf is going on here?" then yeah, i agree. definite white pepper notes. kinda creamy - idk. not for me. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 30, 2009 Draft at Craft. Pours deep caramel brownish with off-white head. Nose is yeasty spice, malty, brown sugary, florals. Tastes dark malty, with caramel, cacao, spicy yeast, molasses, and white pepper in the flavor. Complex and unique on the palate, and indeed unlike any bier de garde you have ever had the pleasure of drinking. Purists will go crying to their mommies, but this one has a uniqueness that breaks down the barriers between BDGs and dark malts. LilBeerDoctor (1530), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 30, 2009 Draft at Spuyten Duyvil. Pours brown with a light tan head. Aroma of sweet malt, coffee/roasted malt, and some yeast. Flavor of slight roasted notes and yeast in the background. Flavor is definitely a bit indistinct. Not bad but definitely bland. Not that I’m an expert on biere de gardes, but this wasn’t like any others I’ve had before.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Jun 26, 2009 Draft at Redlight Redlight. Dark ruby brown with traces of purple. Medium firm head. Fresh doughy yeasty aroma, baked bread with an herbal character...coriander? orange peel? cranberry? Perhaps a hint of phenol? But it all blends into an integrated whole and its difficult to pick it out. Flavor is very different, tends to funky barrel with some yeasty green-apple bread dough. Slightly tart. Weird herbal finish, a touch too bitter? Dark malts a little out of place. I can’t quite place what I don’t like about the flavor, but I just don’t. Slick palate feels undercarbonated and almost cloying from the sweet dark malts. Thats part of it but the rest is hard to describe. WeeHeavySD (3041), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Jun 21, 2009 Yankee, Hotel, Foxtrot, Foxtrot, Foxtrot, Foxtrot, yeah well thats what I think when I see the word Foxtrot, had this from a 12oz bottle from Capone’s. Pours rich orange with a 2 finger tan head. Nose is sweet, with a nice rich character. Taste is sweet, malty, rich and damn smooth, I like this its balanced and exceedingly drinkable. egajdzis (3638), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 17, 2009 Poured a mahogany color with a medium sized, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, some roast, spice, dark fruits, banana, and a bit of warming alcohol. Taste of caramel, roasted malts, raisins, smoke, spices, cocoa, bitter hops, and some alcohol. Surprising for only 6.8%.
