Commercial Description:
This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee beans. This silky-smooth brew has notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla that meld together on the tongue to create an incredible sensation. Heresy is released in February.

12oz pour to black as night with a head the color of espresso. Nose is all bourbon and coffee with some very faint vanilla. tastes exactly as it smells except it seems a bit boozy. I guess that should be expected from the bourbon barrel aging. This is consistent all the way through the beer. This is a great stout and the bourbon background is spot on. Awesome! Well worth aging a year or so.

March 2006 - I was digging it...beautiful pour with light brown foamy head and lacing. Aroma and flavor was roasty malt and oak chips. Sweet...on the borderline of overly sweet, but not quite. They pulled it off. Nice.

Softer than the regular, but also a bit thinner really. The flavors are smoother but less defined. Still buttery. Less rum-like alcohol.

22oz bomber acquired in trade with beachbum25. Pretty much your standard oak aged stout. Pours opaque with a wimpy tan head, ok lacing. Nose was big on oak, smoke, and some dark fruits. Flavor was smoky and had a small hint of alcohol. Overall a pretty good brew. Thanks Jim!

Bottle thanks to footbalm. Pours a deep brown with a light brown head. The aroma is mostly a deep bourbon and oak notes. The flavor is pretty rich; some woody and roasted flavors, bourbon, vanilla, and some coffee. This bottle was about three years old and was slightly sour due to aging. Pretty good.

From a bottle. Pours a murky, dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is similiar to the old heathen with some added oak notes from the barrel aging. Taste is more roasty and some oak flavor in addition to the dark malts. Just alittle more balanced and better flavor cohesion than the Old heathen.

22oz. bomber. Pours a deep, dark brown color with a medium tan head that laces rather nicley. Heavy aromas of caramel, roasted malts, chocolate with hints of vanilla and alcohol. Flavor is heavy on vanilla, with some hints of caramel and coffee coming through, with a bitter finish. Mouthfeel is very smooth and soft. Not a bad brew.
