Commercial Description:
This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee beans. This silky-smooth brew has notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla that meld together on the tongue to create an incredible sensation. Heresy is released in February.

22oz. bomber. Pours a deep, dark brown color with a medium tan head that laces rather nicley. Heavy aromas of caramel, roasted malts, chocolate with hints of vanilla and alcohol. Flavor is heavy on vanilla, with some hints of caramel and coffee coming through, with a bitter finish. Mouthfeel is very smooth and soft. Not a bad brew.

Tons of vanilla. High alcohol taste in this low alc. imperial stout. The vanilla and oak is nearly overwhelming in this one. Very bourbon tasting. Much like smokey wood. beautiful lacing, a dark brown head, and nearly intransparant viscous black body make for an excellent appearance. Very thin mouthfeel and nearly no presence on the swallow. And the vanilla. Eeech, this is a rough one.

A big head that retains 1/4 head. Great smoothness on the bourbon smell. Great mouthfeel that’s only a little bite of acidiity.

NorCal December ’07 - Nothing wrong with this beer at all. A fine offering from Weyerbacher, whose beers are hit and miss. The aroma on this beer was earthy, oaky, bourbon, and sugar. Appearance is deep black with a thick tan head. Mouthfeel is suprisingly smooth. Flavors have a great mixture of roasted malts, bourbon, vanilla, oaken earthyness and molasses. A very nice beer.

06-07 bottle from artusory, Pours a deep, inky black color with a nice tan head. Nice roasted malt and chocolate aroma hiding under some oak and vanilla. Nice oak and vanilla entry that gives way to a nice roasted chocolate flavor. Real nice, I can’t wait to try the older bottle. Thanks to Ryan. 06-07 rating: 7-4-8-3=3.7

05-06 bottle from drewbeerme. Quite a difference between these releases. This one was much more mellow on the bourbon spice and contained strong vanilla in the aroma and flavor. Chocolate roastiness still dominates the finish, but it is more mellow and works better in conjunction with the barrel characteristics. Very nice. Thanks Drew, this was a good surprise. 05-06 Rating: 8-4-8-3-16=3.9
