Commercial Description:
This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee beans. This silky-smooth brew has notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla that meld together on the tongue to create an incredible sensation. Heresy is released in February.

Wood, chocolate, roasted coffee and vanilla aromas. Thick creamy head that dissipates to a thin lacing. First taste was a little bland but as the breww warmed all the flavors I expected from the aroma came out in full and stayed on my palate for a long time. Woud definitely recommend this beer to a friend.

near black pour with a quickly disappearing reddish light brown head. milk chocolate and light cocoa powder dominate over the smoky charcoal aromas. big alcohol slap in the face.it has a woody chocolate flavor with some vanilla and coffee characteristics. pleasant dry finish. medium bodied with moderate carbonation. bourbon aged flavor kills the beer and hides its potential.

Appearance: Pours an inky black body with a dark, tan-colored head that quickly fell to a thin ring of lace. Smell: A redolent aroma vast in red wine qualities; dark chocolate, black pepper, alcohol, and tart, dark fruitiness. Taste: For me, it’s more evocative of a red wine than anything bourbon based. Unfortunately, any chocolaty or roasty stout qualities are thin and tend to meander, and that’s if you can perceive them beneath the excessive oakiness. As the beer warms, the alcohol goes from being glaring to overkill. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Moderate carbonation. Somewhat watery texture. Drinkability: For me, it fell short of the bold, though balanced deliciousness of some other Imperial Stouts. In fact, I preferred the simple, straight-up Old Heathen Stout.
